Hi Gwen,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, and I feel certain we can help you resolve this.

Before we look at HijackThis logs, we ask that you first follow the directions in PreWork, you can find them in my signature. Please make sure that you save the ewido log, and that you have the most current version of HijackThis.

I am also wondering, people often mean different things when they say that they "restored" the computer. Did you use the Restore CD that came with the computer that should take it back to factory settings?

What malware, spyware did you remove, and what did you use?

Was your computer working properly before the infection?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

I did not use the cd's I used the f10 key and did a complete restore It did wipe everything out of the computer and I had to restore all my programs I am not sure what it was that infected the computer because none of my scans would run they would go so far and freeze even in safe mode I have followed the steps that were posted the only thing the scan found was some tracking cookies spysweeper did fing one thing that was in a hidden file that it is calling a potential root kit not sure what else to do I do have the restore cd's but I am not sure if that is needed

Lets run a Root Kit Finder...

Go here http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ Look under Scripts and download, unzip and run the Registry Search Tool.

Type rofl in the dialog box. Let it run. A prompt will appear. Click OK .This will write the results to Notepad. Please post that text here.

Also download SILENT RUNNERS to a new folder,... Unzip if Zipped, and run the Silent Runners.vbs file.
Open the "Startup Programs.txt" file it creates, and copy/paste the contents to this post, please.
The "Startup Programs.txt" file will be in the folder you ran the "Silent Runners.vbs" file from.
