Default [Fixed] Probably Got It From AIM

Hi there computer experts. I come in need of assistance. My computer has been acting funny lately. I'll go to some websites and pictures won't display properly, weird code shows up where the formatting should be, and random pages won't even load at all. I think I got something from AIM...again. I have been receiving weird messages from screen names I've never heard of, and I haven't clicked on anything to open or download, however, their messages include random text, and I think it's started messing with my computer.

I ran hijackthis and have attached the log I received after it scanned my computer. Any help received on this would be greatly appreciated!

Hya Rakkel , welcome to PCHF.

Youre hjt log seems to be clean , but these two can be fixed:

O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.toshiba.com
O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...2/cpbrkpie.cab
And do you use the IMLocal software?

But it seems you have no firewall and two AV's installed , PC Tools AntiVirus and Symantec/norton. To prevent conficts i would uninstall/disable one of those.

And for a firewall have a look in our download section for a couple of free ones.

And to look some more for malware download and run this tool:

AIM Fix was created to remove all known AIM viruses in one consolidated removal tool. It is designed to end the virus processes, delete the files, and remove registry keys created by the virus.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4348.html

And also do an Ewido scan:

http://www.pchelpforum.com/118557-post2.html

when done post the log from it please.

Yes, I use IMLocal, but can part with it if necessary.

And I didn't have two anti-virus programs until just today. I got desparate and wanted a "second opinion" if you will. So I downloaded PC Tools. I was going to delete it once finished.

And I know my firewall is disabled. Personally I like it that way. I download and upload lots of media files and disabling my firewall was my only option in many cases. I guess I'm kind of like many others out there asking "What does it REALLY do anyway?" lol But if you insist I turn it back on, I will.

I already ran AIM Fix and it didn't find anything. So I'm all good in that dept.

I have attached the Ewido results.

Thank you for your help!

You can let Ewido run again and let it fix all it finds this time , but i dont see anything really nasty in there.

Lets do an online AV scan aswell , please do a Panda scan here:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan

And post the log from that aswell.

Yea, I didn't see anything too malicious, either. And my computer is running a bit smoother, but it's not 100% yet.

Panda only found a bunch of tracking cookies , sofar everything indicates that youre pc is clean of any infections.

Lets clean out old temp files and such:

Please download ATF-Cleaner.

Run ATF-Cleaner:
First check "Select All" , and then remove the tick infront of "History".
Then click Empty Selected.
When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

And run a registry cleaner:

install and run RegSupremePro.
It will want to make a backup of your registry , let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

Lets see if that makes a difference.
