I'm trying to fix my mom's computer. She says that recently her regularly fast computer has been majorly slown down.

After doing all the suggested steps, it still is much slower than it should be.

Computer stats:
Dell P4, 1.79GHz
256 mb ram
(I know there's not much ram, but that doesn't explain why it used to run fine)

I dont see anything wrong there , but for 256 mb there is quite alot of software running. Maybe she has just installed some more new software?

Have a look in the taskmanager to see how much ram you are using.

And also to look some more for malware please do a Ewido scan and post the log from that:
