Hey There Scouse M'dear,

Your log looks clean to me , although I would make a point of disabling Windows Messenger, it just leaves you open to popups. You can do it easily with Shoot the Messenger.

Can you answer a few? Did the slowdown happen all of a sudden, or has it been steadily declining?

Are you sure that all of your updates and maintenance are done?

If not, that's where I would check next, make sure you are fully updated, run Defrag, CCleaner, and give RegSupremePro from my sig a try. I think if your problem is a bloated registry, the computer struggling with thousands of temp files, and a seriously fragmented HD you will get great results. If not, you will have everything in great shape for us to troubleshoot from there.

If you are all clean and pretty and up to date, then I would suspect some type of system file problem.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey hey LGW,

I'm already defragged as of last week, and my reg was cleaned up a day later. Completely updated, deleted all temp files too. Only been running slow the last few days, but spyware scan shows no problems.

Thanks.

I should have known you'd be ontop of the maintenance issue, can't make it easy can you Scouse ole boy? LOL.

OK, let's go for the easy stuff first. Then work our way up.
  • Have you tried the sfc utility? Start, Run, sfc /scannow (don't forget the space)
  • Have you done any online virus scans? Housecall, Panda etc
  • Have you scanned with Spy Sweeper, and or Counter Spy?
  • Have you scanned with ewido?
  • Have you recently installed any software or hardware?
Looking forward to your answers, as usual.

Decided to be a good boy.
  • Have you tried the sfc utility? Start, Run, sfc /scannow (don't forget the space) Done - no problems
  • Have you done any online virus scans? Housecall, Panda etc Clean
  • Have you scanned with Spy Sweeper, and or Counter Spy? Clean
  • Have you scanned with ewido? Cookies - nothing serious
  • Have you recently installed any software or hardware? Nope

The sooner I rebuild the better I think.

Thanks for your help LGW

Yup, that's kinda what I'm thinking, it could be that the slowdown is hardware related, but I'd rather get Zimbo, Radar, Hengis, and/or Gromit to be troubleshooting those possibilities.

If your planning a rebuild anyway, we'll just mark it as resolved, and see what happens on the other side... (omnious music plays.)

Let us know what you'd rather do. Looking forward to your reply, as always,

I'm building from new, but this pc is gonna be passed onto someone. It's getting worse now too. In the last 2 days, i've had the 'windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down'. That's happened very, very rarely in the past, but has happened 4 times in the last 2 days....
