Let me start by saying that I am not pc illiterate and most of my phone a friends avoid me now. Anyhow, I bought aLite_On Dvd\CD Rom about 6 months ago. It has worked great up until about a month ago. Suddenly it quit recoginizing CD's. I have tried a different types of CD's with no luck. I have researched this, had a friend look at it, and been in and out of my registry key, following whatever advice I could find.

Now I think I have invited other pest's into my pc. It has started running slow and freezing up. I am posting a recent Hijack this scan and can also post a nero log if it would help. Also, I have tried running Norton, Spybot and Adaware SE while in safe mode. I get the same bugs back as soon as I go back into windows. At this point I'm ready to clean my hard drive and re-install windows altogether, but I'm not sure I can do that succesfully by myself and I depend on my pc for work. Any help at all that you can give me would be appreciated more than I can express. I have put in countless hours trying to fix this on my own. Thanks for taking the time to read this small book.

So it does still play DVD's?
Are you able to try your player in another PC?
Otherwise, it's hard to determine whether the problem is the player or your OS.

Can you post a normal hjt log? This is abit messy and difficult to analyze.
