Operating system CD? what the...

the only "CDs" that came with my packard bell pc was the gift cd (with a few free games and software on it) and the MS Works... or those are the only ones im aware of...

Well it seems my machine speeds up after being on for a while... or sometimes lags and sometimes doesn't.

Hi NHH,

OK, that means that you have a section on your harddrive designed to take you back to factory install, it's called Restoring. Sometimes, the SFC utility, (System File Checker) can read from those Cabs, and sometimes it cannot. It is still worth a try. If it asks you to direct it, try your D drive.

In the mean time, the change in your speed after the PC is on for a while is interesting. I don't recall, did we ask you if you had recently installed new hardware or software?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Thats normal , it only prompts you if there is a file missing or damaged.

But lets see , you have run al these apps by now and they either found nothing , or what was found has been removed , correct?

Stop-Sign Threat Scanner
HouseCall
Avg
Spybot s&d
Ad-aware
spysweeper
hijackthis
unhackme
blacklight
sfc /scannow
Spyware doctor
XoftSpy
Panda active scan
L2Mremover
LQfix
ccleaner
regsupremepro

Trojan Hunter found only one false positive

So only trojan hunter is still finding that one entry , and all other scans are clean now?

If that is the case and you still have all kind of problems then it might be a good idea to backup youre files and use the restore discs. I dont know where else to go from here im afraid.

Hey Guys,

@NHH, I am inclined to agree with Joe, considering all of the time you have spent removing the malware, and now dealing with the aftermath, it may be better for you to run your System Restore module.

However, you could try to defrag the PC, to see if that helps, if you want to try one more thing.

Before you panic, , we'll walk you through either proceedure, we just need to know what you want to do next.

Looking forward to your reply,
