Actually there seems to be a pattern to the firefox freezing. The vast majority of times it happens as a website is being loaded - Ive tested it a bit just now, and it freezes a everytime it's in the process of downloading/opening a website. So every time I click a link or enter a website adress it freezes somewhere in the process. Strangely enough it doesn't seem to do it when I do a google search but apart from that it does. Do you think it has something to with cookies? Not sure though since I have firefox set to allow cookies.

I have found another weird symptom that might help finding the root of the lagging system and freezing firefox hehe. When I run Azureus which uses java (javaw.exe) and it starts downloading the system becomes EXTREMELY laggy, so laggy that I can't use the PC for anything while Azureus downloads. If I look at task manager while Azureus downloads, CPU usage alernates between "Active systemprocess" and "javaw.exe" using 99% CPU. This is the first time I've run Azureus since the PC got these problems and it has never before caused such insane system lag when downloading - in fact it used to never cause any system lag whatsoever.

EDIT : Maybe this one can be ignored since it seems that it was the "Ewido background guard" that caused the problem with "javaw.exe" while downloading with Azureus - After having turned of the ewido guard it still lags more than normal when I download with Azureus but nowhere near as much as it did when the Ewido guard was running

After having used smitrem and uninstalled Logitech Desktop Messenger (did these two things in a row) another really annoying thing has begun happening. About 30 mins after having started the PC suddenly the mouse pointer becomes invisible - the mouse is still functional, only I can't see where it is. The pointer also becomes invisible in games and the only way to get the pointer back is to restart the PC.

So now the situation is this:
First the good
1. The slow download speed was indeed an ISP problem and has been fixed via purchase of a couple more gigs. hehe
2. Winhound seems to be gone.
Yup , its gone. And good to hear the ISP prob is also resolved.

Does that say exactly "active systemprocess"? And not "system idle process"?

That is not abnormall for Java and Azureus using alot of cpu time , you could try switching to a different client wich doesn't use java like bitcomet or Utorrent:

Both smitrem and the Logitech Desktop Messenger shouldn't have an effect on that afaik.

Installed with the software for Logitech products. Automatically checks for software upgrades AND new products, services and special offerings from Logitech
Wich basicly just comes down to trying to sell stuff and trying to show adds.

Have a look in Control Panel/Printers and Other Hardware/mouse/pointer options tab , and see if "hide cursor while typing" is ticked , if it is then untick it.

Or try to uninstall and reinstall the mouse.

And you had already tried un and re installing Firefox but give it an other try.
First uninstall Firefox , then delete all remaining folder if any from Firefox , then run Ccleaner (see below for a link) , then run a regcleaner:

install and run RegSupremePro. It will want to make a backup of your registry , let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

And then reinstall (the latest version of) Firefox again.

Hi Joe

First off, my windows is in Danish so what what I translated "Active systemprocess" is in fact "system idle process" - pretty misguiding wording in Danish i guess hehe. So this means that having it on 99 is in fact a good thing as far as I've understood.

I will now go through the process of reinstalling firefox and deep cleaning the registry after which I will be back with hopefully good news

[quote=martin_hb83]Ok, I've now run CCleaner and RegSupremePro.

First I unstalled firefox and deleted the remaining installation folder.

Second I ran CCleaner which found registry key "HKCR\,pal" which it defined as an "unused file extension" and showed its data as ",pal -" - this one reappears everytime i run ccleaner even though i try fixing it every time.

Third I ran RegSupremePro which found a ****load of stuff which I told it fix. Nothing reappears when I rescan with it. In the "Installed Software" tab it shows something called "qnaamp" by an "unknown" author.

Fourth I restarted the PC. It took much longer for it to load the desktop and get ready than it did last time I booted the PC.

Fifth I ran CCleaner again. It still shows the HKCR\,pal problem but now it also shows about 10 "ActiveX/COM" issues... So it seems RegSupremePro has done something CCleaner disagrees with - so I don't know if I should fix these or not.

Sixth I reinstalled firefox. However firefox still does its freezing thing.

So the main points are:
1. HKCR\,pal - this only shows in CCleaner and wont be removed.
2. qnaamp - RegSupremePro shows thia as installed software and I've googled it but nothing turns up so I dont know if its something that should be removed.
3. After running RegSupreme the reboot was much slower than last time I rebooted and the PC hardware made a lot of the kind of noise you normally get with to many processess or lag.
4. CCleaner has found about 10 ActiveX/COM issues after RegSupreme did its thing - so apparently they have conflicting opinions and i dont know who to go with hehe.
5. Firefox still freezes its *** off hehe. No idea what the problem is with this thing.
EDIT:
6. The mouse pointer also keeps going invisible. It seems this only happens when Azureus is active... Is it possible that java has something to do with the visibility of ones mouse pointer? I don't see how this problem can be something related to the mouse installation but I'll try and reinstall it

Again, really appreciate your help
