Hi thanks for your help so far Joe5! However i have come across a problem, there seems to be no trace of Newdotnet on my pc anywhere. When i followed Procedure 4, on the link you directed me to, i downloaded the uninstaller but one of the anti spyware programs popped up to say it was a very harmful program so i removed it. Is this normal? Other than that all ok so far...

Thats ok , just tell the antispyware app to ignore it and run the tool anyway. If it was harmfull i wouldn't let you use it.

Looking pretty good , we're almost there.

First download and run this tool:

http://www.simplytech.it/L2MRemover/index_e.htm

And then fix these with hjt if still present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Control Panel - C:\WINDOWS\system32\t6r8lg9u16.dll
After that post an other hjt log to check please.

Also it seems you have no firewall , to be better protected from things like this you really should have one. Have a look in our download section for free ones.

Hi, done that, however O20 - Winlogon Notify: Control Panel - C:\WINDOWS\system32\t6r8lg9u16.dll, did not exist on the HJT scan.

Heres my new HJT Log

Also just to add, my pc does have windows firewall (and it is activated), is this sufficient?

thanks

Thats ok , the L2M remover already removed it.

Even though the sp2 windows firewall has been improved alot , i'd still say no. I would disable it and install a third party firewall.

Please run this tool:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...r/FxDtcmtb.exe

And post a new hjt log to check please.
