Spysweeper log is clean , also no apropos infection and the hjt log is also clean.

Only the Messenger service is still running , have you run the "shoot the messenger" utility already?

Yes, I ran the utility but the windows messenger icon is still present in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Do I have to shut the messenger manually and than run "Shoot The Messenger" again?

Now, I just read on the ShootTheMessenger web site that this utility has nothing to do with Windows Messenger that is shown in the task bar. Sorry for my previous post.

BTW, I haven't noticed anyting unusual (popups or sound clicks) for quite some time now. Can it be that the system is clean?

I dont know why , but that happends more lately that the utility doesn't work anymore.. Strange. Lets do it manually:

Click Start>Run and type in: services.msc
Click OK
In the Services window find the windows messenger service.
Select/highlight and right click the entry, and choose: Properties
On the General tab, under Service Status click the Stop button
Beside: Startup Type, in the drop menu, select: Disabled
Click Apply, then OK
