Default [Fixed] Stupid Computer

Hi,

My computer seems to have a mind of its own and restarts whenever it feels it wants too. I was told by my son that you guys could help. Here is my HJT log. Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to PCHF.

A couple of question so we can try and pin point the problem:
  • Roughly how often does it restart e.g after 5mins/10mins or random?
  • How long has it been doing this?
  • Have you installed any new hardware recently?
  • Do you get any error messages before the restart?
Someone will take a look at the log file but in the meantime would you be able to run a scandisk and defrag on your computer.

You can fix this line with hjt:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

And if you don't want/use these , then i would uninstall the "Viewpoint Toolbar" and "eBay Toolbar" in "Add or Remove Programs" but other then that it looks good.

Have a look with one of these apps to see if you have a heat or psu problem:

And report back the results please.

Hi!

Thanks for responding! Today, this wondrous machine is crashing every few minutes. I'm hoping I actually get to post this, this time!

It's been going on for months, but I thought at first, it was a memory problem. Guess not! Added another 128MB hoping that was the problem. No help. I often run four or five programs at once when I'm working on an ebook design project.

I've uninstalled the toolbars, ran a spyware scan, and will do a defrag and a disk scan in a few. But I've done them all before and it doesn't solve much. Maybe the computer will run longer between crashes. Only one or two instead of four or five...

It's a random thing. It might be fine for much of the day and crash out of the blue. Or it might boot up and bomb before the icons have a chance to appear on the desktop. It might crash once or it might crash every five minutes or so. Today it's crashing at about that rate.

The only thing I've installed is the memory stick, but the computer was crashing months before that.

I don't get any error before restart. But AFTER restart it'll tell me that my system has recovered from a serious error. If I get taken to the crash analysis site, I'm told it was due to a device driver. Doesn't say which one. Updates to any such haven't helped. But, I, not being technically inclined, wouldn't know what else to do after this.

Also, my monitor is blacking out for a few seconds rather often. Don't know if that's a related thing, but this has only started to happen. Card drivers, perhaps? Or the card itself? I'm hoping it's not the monitor, I just got it!

Anyway, I'll run the scans and get back to you. So far, uninstalling those toolbars hasn't changed anything.

Thanks!

NeenahDee

Do you have the latest motherboard , video , sound drivers and directx installed? This sounds like you have a driver issue.

If you need help finding out the hardware specs for youre machine then run one of these apps and attach the log to a post so that we can help you look:

Not sure, really. I thought some of them were . . . but, maybe not as updated as I thought they were.

Here's my log.

Neenah
