Thought that'd be the way to go. If I have the graphics card already, then I don't have to worry about it. This board can take up to the 333mhz ram, so I'll do that.

The first time for anything is the scariest . . . But after that, I think I'll be fine. I figure if PJ can do it, hey . . . I sure can!!

Whoa! Two whole days . . . or almost two whole days and not one crash!!! This is great! I hope this means things are good now. Can't decide to reformat and reinstall now, or after I get the upgrades. Probably after I get the upgrades . . . it'll feel like a whole new system then!

Yeah it seems pretty intimidating. The machine I'm using now was my first build. In fact it's only the second PC I've ever owned. I even damaged the compound on the heat sink that came with my CPU and thought "yay 230$ down the drain" but it works great.

Just follow the instructions and everything should go well, any errors are most likely poor contact and checking that everything is pressed in firmly usually fixes that.

One thing that I've learned is that I'll never again buy a used PC, at least with new parts you know if there's anything wrong with something you can just bring the faulty part back and exchange it. And new parts always come with the necessary drivers. A lot of problems with used PC's is that most people don't know what parts are in them. My old Pentium 3 was supposed to have a 64MB Radeon 8600. Turns out that that card doesn't exist. It was a FireGL Pro 8500. 3 weeks and I finally went mad and bought my FX 5200. Though now I have some more XPerience so identifying hardware has become less daunting.

Well, that's my funny story.

I've never had a used PC, so I've missed the fun. My first was pretty much a barebones affair I got when I signed up for a writing course back in '92. Bit by bit I upgraded it, not by myself, of course!

When the bigger hard drives and the 486s started coming out, I sprung for a brand new machine. Best I could get at the time . . . Yep, now, as I say, the only thing left of that deal is the case. And it's time to say good bye to it. Wonder if I could get $10 for it on eBay . . .

Hoping to go for the card this week.

Day 3 and counting! No crashes yet!:hello2: I think of this smiley as more of a YIPPEEEEEEEE!! than a hello . . . .

Will do, joe5! Everything is still working nicely . . . except for the occasional ripply things that wiggle across my screen from time to time.
Looking to have that clear up once I get the new graphics card.

Lol , thats either a ghost in the machine , a screensaver of some sort maybe , or a faulty/overheating video card indeed i think.
