:computer_ Hello again--

I've updated the nvidia drivers and the DirectX. I have the drivers for the motherboard, but am not sure of how to go about doing this one. Looks like I have to go into BIOS and mess with things. Not terribly confident of that, never having done it before. Always a concern when I'm entering a spot where I could trash my PC totally! But, perhaps I'm sweating the small stuff?

Went to Creative to get the sound driver, but when I tried to install, I got a Couldn't detect a SoundBlaster card installed message.

So I checked it out in the device manager and it says that I have Creative AudioPCI (ES1370) SB PCI 64/128 (WDM) If that is a totally different card, I couldn't find a driver for it. It doesn't come up in their list. If it's actually the right one, well . . . it's being an idiot! I downloaded all the drivers to one folder I named PC drivers, just it case it matters. . . which I didn't think it would . . . but what do I know?!

The last few times that my pc crahsed, I got a couple other errors. One is a Memory Ram problem. I've downloaded the tool for that at MS's site. But if you have a better one, I'm ready to try it. Going to run the MS one shortly.

The other message says it's a hardware failure. Most often, though, it's still the device driver issue. I'm hoping that's the case...sure hope it's nothing more horribly serious!

Anita

No need to go in youre bios , just download the VIA Chipset 4in1 Drivers from the page i linked and install (almost at the bottum).

There are two versions , as you also posted the info says "64/128" so it could be either.. i posted the link for the 128 version. Here is a link for the 64 version:

Would you also be able to attach your event log onto the site, instructions below:
  • START - CONTROL PANEL - ADMINISTRATOR TOOLS - EVENT VIEWER
  • Click on Application then click ACTION - Save log file as - give it a name and remember the location where you saved it.
  • Do the same for System
  • Attach those two files in your next post.

Will do, Zimbo!

Joe5, I've downloaded three drivers for the sound card . . . none worked. Still says I don't have the right card for them. And all three of them had the same file name . . . not sure if that means anything.

Off to run the memory test.

Okay, this is probably one of those 'Duh" situations, but I'm having trouble making a book disk in either floppy or CD form. Nothing happens once the disk is created and I reboot.

I followed the instructions -- such as they were -- but must be doing something wrong. Really, there isn't much, if any, info at all on which of the files to include -- I included both -- or exactly what do after creating the disk. Leave it in and reboot? Shut down virus programs? Not that it matters, for as I say, nothing happens. It all just comes back to Windows. What's supposed to happen? Will I have to sit and help it run, or does it run automatically?

Thanks!

Anita
