Spysweeper won't remove items unless you subscribe. Is there any other way? It found 35 items apparently. If Spysweeper is better than anything I already have, I will have to buy it, but I don't want to be panicked into buying something I don't need.

Spysweeper should come with a 30 day trial and should remove everything it finds for that period.

Did you already had Spysweeper?

And yes , spysweeper is pretty good but you already have enough and good enough anti spyware apps , inc Ewido now.

PS, Ewido is also a trial but you can use the app to manually scan and update aslong as you like.

EDIT, i think i see what happend , they changed the page and don't have the trial link anymore on that page i linked.
Try uninstalling the spysweeper install you have know , and then get the trial version here:

http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/

and then follow these instructions:

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
Click on "Options" > "Sweep Options" and check "Sweep all Folders on Selected drives".
Check "Local Disc C" and under "What to Sweep", check every box.
Click on "Sweep" and allow it to fully scan your system.
When the sweep has finished, click "Remove" to remove any items found.
Exit SpySweeper and reboot your computer.

NOTE: After Spysweeper has finishined and removed any items found, it is important that you exit and reboot your computer right away to ensure the infection is fully removed.

The Webroot website isn't working at the moment - Trial download page unavailable, so will try later
You're a hard worker, aren't you!
Many thanks for your continued help with this

Default Another HJT log

Thankyou so much, Joe

The winupdate error is 0x8DDD0002, which is 'YOU ARE NOT THE SYTEM ADMINISTRATOR SO NO UPDATES'!
Well I AM the administrator.
I visited the error page and did all the things it suggested in turn.
Still won't let me in.??:
aaarrrgghh
Would you like me to post this somewhere else?
Cheers
Angie

Edit: The only thing on the MS error page that I can't do is the SoftwareDistribution fix, because however I go about it the Properties box has no tab called Security, only the general/sharing/customize tabs.
