Default [FIXED] Can not Connect to Amazon

Hello there
I discovered this site using Google to attempt to fix a problem that has developed on my computer in the last 4 days or so. For whatever reason I can not connect to Amazon.com. I CAN connect to other frequently used websites (AND can connect to Amazon.co.uk) but not Amazon.com or any of the sub pages. When I first noticed it happening I assumed that Amazon was down temporarily. However, the next day it still would not connect and I attempted to access Amazon from a different computer and was successful.

I found on the threads someone here had the same problem in July, and I attempted a few of those resolves to no avail. The one problem I have noticed that is DIFFERENT from the problem she was having was that she COULD connect to Amazon through AOL, but not IE. I can not connect using EITHER web browser. I have run Ad Aware and Spybot as well as SpySweeper for MSN and they all come back clean.

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated, as this is really REALLY maddening.

My system specs are :
Windows XP Home SP2
AMD athlon XP 2000
512 RAM
Dial Up Connection through MSN (mostly - sometimes use other Dial up Services - attempted connecting to Webpage using those other services but still woudln't connect)

Please help if you can. It is most troubling.

Thanks in advance, and keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Lenard , welcome to PCHF.

Can you first post a hijackthis log to rule out a malware problem? See for a link below.

hi there & welcome to PCHF

Let's see if you have a DNS issue locally, type the following into your IE address bar and see if it opens Amazon.com

http://207.171.163.90 - and hit the "Go" button or press return.

I dont see any big problems in there , but do you know why these are present on youre system?

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:9022
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = ;127.0.0.1;

Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original Hosts file.

And these can be fixed with hjt:

Im pretty sure this one is ok but just in case , can you upload the file in bold the the following sites to check and report back the results?

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = ;127.0.0.1;

I have no idea why those are on there, and have no idea what they are.

I downloaded and ran the Hoster program to restore original host. I still can not access Amazon.com - do I need to reboot first?

Additionally I have used the highjack this program and removed the entries that you reccommended
