I think that a system restore is a great idea - go back to the day before the troubles started (5 days?) but be aware that any software you have installed in the meantime will need to be re-installed.

A quick sidenote before the attempt
I noticed that your icon has the Stewwie character with an Ipod - do you use itunes for windows? and if so is there a work around on a system restore in terms of adding music to the library - I haven't installed any new softs (other than today) on the computer, but I HAVE imported a ton of music. And doing a system restore would revert my library back to what it was however many days ago. I was wondering if I copied out the Xml library files to flash disk, then did the system restore and THEN reapplied my library files it would appear as they were before the system restore, even though everything else is reverted back.

Of course, this is assuming that you use itunes for windows. If not, then disregard.

and once again thank you

I do use iTunes for Windows but unfortunately I haven't had to do what you're suggesting...in theory it would work but you may want to float the idea over at the iTunes forums before doing something you may regret

Tried rolling back the system to over a week ago - with no luck unfortunately. Any other website I go to will show up - except Amazon. I'm utterly baffled by this. I initally thought that the ISP denial might be a possibility, but then I realised I attempted to gain access to Amazon using two different ISP companies (one dial up account is a personal account, the other is the business account hosted by an entirely different company)........

:: is thinking about putting his foot through the comptuer ::

Side note on iTunes - I opened it up and it was just like I left it before I did any system restoring. It doesn't seem affected.

I however, am VERY affected. Such aggrivation....

These two things were pointed out some time ago

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:9022
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = ;127.0.0.1;

Is it possible that these could be the culprit? and can I remove them using HiJack this?

uh............ okay I feel........ Um, really really STUPID right now.

Close to 24 hours of aggrivation was solved by .............. clearing out my temporary Internet Files and Cookies. That's right, you read correctly. I had NOT tried this first, which is one of the things I USUALLY do.

Well let me rephrase that - I DID do it at one point and it worked for about 2 minutes before my system crashed because of something else and once it reset I was back to it not connecting.

And I didn't think to re delete the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies folder from the internet options menu. Apparrently on the system crash it corrupted something within those files which prevented access to the Site.

Clearing them out has allowed it now.

:: feels like a complete idiot right now ::

I DO appreciate all of your help - I learned some things I can apply when problems arise again (and I'm sure they will) And as an added bonus my computer DOES seem to be responding a bit better than it had been overall..So it may not have been all for naught. And I'm glad to have found and joined the site - perhaps my early oversight can help someone else in the future.

And for anyone reading this thread with a similar problem, try deleting those files and you could save yourself a Hell of a lot of aggrivation.

Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to go put the dunce cap on and sit in the corner for a bit.

Thank you again. I am glad to be here. Embarassed though I am.

Hi Lenyrd,

Do not be embarrassed one iota. Sometimes it is the silliest things that stump us all. It is wonderful that you took the time to post back with your solution, it will definitely help someone in the future, and that's what we do here!!.

I would like to make one small suggestion for you and anyone else who reads this post, regular PC maintenance can help you avoid these kinds of troubles all together. Download CCleaner from my signature and make sure to use it regularly, (every three days is a good rule of thumb.)

Also, here is an article about the other aspects of regular PC maintenance that you should be following. PCHF Computer Maintenance Guide.

Look forward to seeing you in the forums.
