Exclamation [RESOLVED] Frustrating problem

Hello everyone. I am new here and I am very excited to see if you can help me. Recently, a relative of mine was clicking around on the internet and his tower started making loud noises. He quickly shut down the computer. Now whenever he is on the computer, it restarts every so often. I booted the PC in safe mode and ran a virus scan (McAffee). (Clean):icon_scra . I then did an additional Virus scan through another Company (Trend Micro). (Clean again):icon_scra . It doesn't appear to have a Virus or Worm. I then scanned for Spyware and Adware and located a lot of files. I deleted all of them and thought maybe that would do the trick. I went to click on the internet explorer icon and ... it restarted. Very Frustrating.

Any ideas would be greatful. :computer_

Thank you.

Hya Jivers , if you follow the instructions in the "Prework" link below then we can have a look to see if there is more malware on there.

Also can you explain abit about what kind of sound comes from the tower?

Default Sounds from the system

Now that I have been back and witnessed it formyself, I do believe it is Malware. The sounds are not coming from the tower as I thought. They are just coming over the speakers when it shuts down. He clicked on a link that was called "This is how I failed my internet course...". It was on a joke site that he visits often. I will click on the link that you gave me. Thank you.

Thumbs down After Ewido

Ok. I have followed your steps and run into a couple problems.

After I installed Ewido, I was unable to boot up in safe mode. This is new too. Yesterday I didn't have a problem. But today, it would start to go to safe mode and then just stop. Almost like it would freeze up. I had to manually shut down the system by pushing the power button. I tried this 3 times with no successful results. So I ran Ewido on Normal Mode. I had only let it run to about 50% as it had already found 167 infected files. But I had to be somewhere and couldn't wait around to filter through the files one-by-one. A Lot of them were IBIS files, and Websearch files.

I will finish the scan again tomorrow. Any ideas what is up with the "safe Mode" now?

Anyway, while I was reading the log file from the scan to see what it had found already, the system them made the annoying loud buzzing noise right before it shut down on me. :computer_

Default Malware Infection

Hey there Jivers,

Sometimes malware infections create unexpected results when they try to protect themselves from detection. I have had situations before where Safe Mode was affected.

Can you do me a favor, skip to the end of the instructions and post the HijackThis log? You will need to make sure that all files and folders are showing, and that you have installed HJT into its own folder and are not running it from a temp folder or on its own on the desktop.

Then post it here, it is a very quick check, we may be able to get you access to your Safe Mode again, it sounds like you are going to need it  .

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Cool Haven't forgotten

Hello,
I haven't forgotten about your request to post the log here for you to see. I just haven't been back there today. I will post that log as soon as I get back over there to get it.

Thanks you for the help though. I am interested to see what you have to say about getting the "safe mode" going again.

Thank you,
Jivers
