Hi,
My computer can see the internet..it pings Yahoo.com, but cannot get on IE or Adaware update.
I scanned and cleaned with adaware PE, and ran hijackthis? log is attached
IE error is ...could not open the search page
when I type in google.com on the bottom left I see it is looking for google.com.net

I reset all of the IE settings to default and cleaned cookies, etc

Hya Cyberjan , first see if this helps:

Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original Hosts file.

and then please post a new hjt log because this text file is empty im afraid.

Thanks for your quick reply I had spsweeper auto loading and it does something with the host file. I have prevented it from loading now...wonder ihow this affects anything?

Do you maybe have a lot of things disabled in msconfig or services.msc?

mmm good point ...there is nothing in startup except avast which i just installed...someone was working on this and they must have deleted EVERYTHING in startup......wow....i am surprized that it runs!

I dont know what that guy did but you better call him back :-o If this is the same pc that you posted a log for a while back then there is alot misssing.

Claims he didnt do it...spy sweeper has a startup thing on it too I wonder if this is giving me a false reading in msconfig yes, in spysweeper I can see thing like ccapp, ccregvfy, dxdregExe.HPDJ taskbar utility,wextract_cleanup0,atri.ex, enisfirst.exe [norton firewall] although i dont see any evidence of norton loading


....also the floppy is not seeing hoster...it seems to be still seeing the lfirst floppy i put in
