Default [Fixed] files identified by adaware I can't get rid of

This is my first posting and may lack some ettiquette but here goes.

I have a windowns millennium operating system that has Norton Anti Virus. My normal browser is AOL but while using ie5.5 I was alerted to a problem with mentions of spware.

I uploaded adaware but there are a number of files in c:\_Restore that refuse to be deleted. I get the message try closing browsers or do you want to reboot and have adaware rerun on rebooting.

I don't have any browsers open at the time I do it from the desktop and in? rebooting the same files reappear.

I cannot open my ie browser, i get an error message.

It has been suggested to me to :
Run Micrsoftantipware. This will only run with IE6.0 and I cannot complete the upload of IE6.0 because of the problem with
5.5 , I guess ?

Running killbox. This actually created copies of the bad files

Rebooting in safe mode and running adaware from here. Tried to get to safe mode using F8 during reboot but this didn't work

Have tried selecting the files in windows exploere and trying to remove them.

I can still use my aol browser but not my ie and the bad files are still there

Thanks for your patience
