I cant get internet access for more the 1 attempt in IE? firefox just says done and goes nowhere
windows fire wall and ics is turned off.
In add and remove programs the is no remove under SP2

I recently installed SP2 on a machine and ran into this error message everytime I attemtped to start the Windows Firewall:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service (ICS) on Local Computer.
Error 0x80004015: The class is configured to run as a security id different from the caller.

After some google searching I eventually found a thread describing the issue I was having. I have reworded the solution below.

? ? ? Click ?Start? followed by ?Run...?
? ?2.

? ? ? Type in ?regedt32? and hit the enter key.
? ?3.

? ? ? Locate the key HKEY_Local_MACHINE\software\classes\appid\{ce166e4 0-1e72-45b9-94c9-3b2050i8f180} and highlight it.
? ?4.

? ? ? Click ?File? and then ?Export? from the File menu and export a copy of the key.
? ?5.

? ? ? Make sure the key mentioned in step 3 is still highlighted and delete it.
? ?6.

? ? ? Restart your computer and the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service should start automatically.

Oh one other strange thing ...it seems I can get IE access when in safe mode with networking

Alright it sounds like you may have some spyware installed, firstly click on "Handy Tools" in my signature and download and install Microsoft Antispyware if you don't have it on already.

Once you have run that program, run Hijackthis and post the log onto the forums.

We will then make sure all your spyware is removed and will help get your firewall started.

I have spy sweeper and NA 2005 turned on
Norton found cahecashekit twice and I cleaned/deleted it in safe mode but it just came back with NA saying it cant fix.

Did you turn off system restore (and deleted old restore points) before letting Norton fix it?
It seems to be hiding there.

Also can you post a hijackthis log? (nevermind the hijackthis part , i have merged youre other post in here)

There's plenty wrong in youre log , but i hope you have some patience , i will analyze it later today but im a little short for time ATM.

I downloaded MS spyware in safe mode cleaned and removed the same stuff I removed before. I cleaned cachecashe again in safe mode I will run another hijackthis log. I did shut off restore , but do I have to manually delete restore points???
I cant get back to this till tonight so take your time I have plenty of patience and graditute for the help...I have been working on this for days!!!
