Default [Pending] Windows XP SP2 Wont Boot After CWShredder Scan & Fix

I updated ran CWShredder and it found two problems and fixed them. I stupidly didnot write down what I was infected with. Told me to reboot and then rerun CWShredder. The Start menu reboot and power off did not work so I manually powered off.

Now when it boots it goes through the initial start up and arrives at a blue screen with the windows xp logo. Looks like the screen you get to log back on after a hibernate but there are no user names to click on.

I have tried reboot in safe mode goes to same place.
I have tried reboot to last know good configuration and goes to same place
I have run hardware diags. No problem.
Is the next step to do a repair from the windows install CD?

Thanks.

Brian

Hello there BrianChile.

Is the next step to do a repair from the windows install CD?
Looks like that is the only option left if you can't boot at all :-(

When I run the repair option I get the command prompt. What do I do next? Thanks. Brian

I think you choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console press R" , you should choose "To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER." first and then select a repair.

Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To Repair Install, press ENTER
do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, read this Warning#2!
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Ok. Went through the repair and have been able to reboot. So next step is to
reinstall SP1 & SP2 I guess based on this link.
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Going to Windows update. They want me to reinstall
BITS2.0 which it does and then I reboot as instructed. Go back to Windows
UPdate and says I need to update to BITS2.0 so it didn't take. I did this
twice. Reboot time is horribly slow. At least 3 minutes each time. Nothing
seems to be working. Is this progress? What should my next step be? Thanks.
