Welcome to PCHF bruce_embry

A quick look at your HJT log would indicate that it isn't neccessarily? spyware but to be on the safe side, download and run this: Microsoft Antispyware and Spybot.

Right click on your "Start/Task bar" and select Task Manager - look in the "Processes" tab to see if there are any programs/services using a high amount of your CPU power.

Hengis,

Thanks for the quick response. Spybot is already on this computer and has been kept up to date. At your suggestion, I have installed Microsoft. Another forum recommended ewido, so I have installed it. Both are scanning right now.

Task Manager shows nothing unusual.

Ewido did find one instance of spyware that I didn't recognize. I had it clean it.

XP SP2.

Another update. Microsoft found nothing.

Another forum suggested disconnecting inaccessible network drives. There was one, and that seems to have helped a little. (1.5 minutes to open the Hijackthis log instead of 2.0 minutes).

ewido finally finished. The only malware it found was a cookie:

administrator@overture1.net (or something like that.)
