Hi, my Internet Explorer loads the Home Search Assistant and I can't get rid of it. I have run HijackThis, CWShredder, and Adaware but no luck. I have been able to temporarily delete the RKOs with the hijacker but they keep coming back. Here is my Hijack Log:

Hi BrewsterMcCloud & welcome to PCHF!

Ok, you need to firstly run this program: http://www.pchelpforum.com/download-file-21.html - then when it has finished, re-run HiJack This and check the following entries (I know u ran it already but it's tha best place to start :smile: ;

C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates1.exe
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe

NOW click on "Fix" -it may be worth re-booting ur pc. If you are running XP it may also be worth turning off System Restore as some "nasties" can hide in there.

You can turn restore back on again after a re-boot as switching it off will delete any system restore information held in your pc.

PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE POINT - BY TURNING SYSTEM RESTORE OFF IT WILL ERASE ANY SYSTEM RESTORE INFORMATION HELD IN THE HIDDEN SYSTEM RESTORE FOLDER! Also have a look at any programs you may have installed recently that may be re-infecting you.

Also look at your startup programs - start > run > msconfig > startup tab.

Hengis, thanks so much for taking the time to follow up with my question. I tried the suggestions but it's still reforming. I have read on other sites that this problem is uninstallable once you try to uninstall HomeSearchAssistant and get this message: http://looking-for.cc/uninstall/Home...Assistant.html. The only way to get rid of it was to find the registry key and delete it but finding it is another matter. Any other suggestions? Thanks,
Glen

Have you downloaded Spybot and Adaware yet? (both available in our downloads section). Make sure you update both before you run them both.

Then run HijackThis again and post the log

Hey. This is strange but I'll take it. I have updated all the big programs: Hijack, CWShredder, Spybot, Adaware. Nothing happened. Then, I read on a forum urging people to stay away from Yahoo toolbar. I just disabled it and enabled Google toolbar, which they recommended. No more Home Search Assistant. I can't explain it but it works. The Home Search Assistant is still in Add/Remove Programs. Oh well, I'm happy. To all those that need to get rid of Home Search Assistant, install Google toolbar! Thanks. Glen
