Question [Answered] leak test

Hi PCHF,
after reading Chiaz Q & A on firewalls I went to the following site http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 to do the stealth test, Though i did not do that test, ( could not see it ) I ran a leak test from that site and it told me that Leak Test was not prevented from connecting to the gibson research web server.

So i assume my outbound is detectable, I know Windows F/Wall does not protect that.

Should my netgear router or my speedstreamer modem look after my outbound?

Or should I install another means to protect me in that area?

Is there another link I could go to that would also do a stealth test?

P.S. out of curiosity I d/loaded webroot trial firewall and leak test showed webroot was doing its job,so i know I need something like webroot.

Thankyou

Hello.

Should my netgear router or my speedstreamer modem look after my outbound?
Nope, they only protect you from Internet noise/incoming traffic -port scans, unsolicited connections, etc. A router will not filter or block any traffic coming from the computer, that is, it doesn't offer outbound protection.

Or should I install another means to protect me in that area?
As I mentioned in detail in my FAQ, outbound protection is optional. However there are links in the bottom that will bring you to some trusted firewalls that offer both inbound and outbound protection, if you wish.

Here are the links to other online tests:
Symantec Security Check
PC Flank: Make sure you're protected on all sides.

Default thanks

Thankyou Chiaz,
out of curiosity I wll check any settings that the router and modem may have in respect to its own firewall, I have never realy thought about firewalls and their purpose untill the other week when I was messing about with a wireless router, will do some study time.

Thanks

You're welcome.

The manual that came with the router/modem will often have some useful information.
