Default Virus Problem

Hi, I have been having trouble with my McAfee firewall. The other day I noticed there was an alert in the bottom right hand corner of my screen telling me that the firewall has been disabled. I tried turning it back on but got an error. I have checked for updates but am currently up to date and have un-installed and re-installed the firewall but this has not worked.

I thought it might be a virus of some kind and thought I could get my logs checked out but when following the instructions on Logs read me section I ran into some trouble where its says to reboot into safe mode. I pick the option to start up in safe mode but then I get a blue screen and an error. Shall I continue the steps when started up in normal mode?

Also since this problem has occured I have had a window come up every so often asking to install a language pack, which I always say No to, but it keeps comming up every now and again. This has happened since my firewal has been down. Also sometimes any windows that are up tend to flash. By this I mean it seems like the window is being deslected and then selected again.

Please can you help me with this problem.
Thank you

Also since installing Spy ware sweeper it picked up this program:

drvsyskit

and is saying that it is trying to start when windows starts. McAfee had just updated so it might be to do with that but I thought I should mention it just in case.

I do not know if I am allowed to speak on these issues.. But I will tell you...you went and picked up a rootkit as they call it..

Might want to do the prework the site says to do and follow the instructions..

The problem is when doing the prework I can't follow the part where it says to reboot in safe mode. What shuld I do? Should I follow the steps in normal mode or do somthing so I can do the steps in safe mode?

For now, just run the avg and the hijackthis part, both in normal mode, and post them both back as attachments, and I'll parse them.

Why can you not boot into safe mode?

thanks,

v
