I am currently using Windows Firewall, and don't trust it. I also have the nVidia Firewall installed, but don't trust it either. The only software I will ever trust, is the stuff coming from Apple. I'm behind two Airports which have port protection, but I'd feel better with an active firewall. I saw these two peices of software at my local Source for 10$ each, are either any good for their price?
JC Personal Firewall
&
PC Gaurdian Firewall
I mean, essentially, a Firewall is a Firewall is a Firewall, it's hard for them to be better than each other... they block ports, and tell me/us/you if something's wrong.
Your affirmation of general quality would be a great help to me, thanks!

Like Scouse said , have a look in our download section for very good free firewalls.
Especially take a look at the Comodo, and Zonealarm firewalls. Im sure that those will be way better choices then those two and again, free.

Windows Firewall only offers inbound protection, but lacks outbound protection. Normally, a third-party firewall will offer both inbound and outbound protection, and this is the main reason why a third-party firewall is recommended by most.
Personally, I have not heard of JC Personal Firewall & PC Gaurdian Firewall. My advice is to stick to the "big" brands of the firewall market, such as ZoneAlarm, Outpost, etc. All these and more you can find at the download section. |

A third-party one is a much better option that Windows firewall. I am using ZoneAlarm Pro. A great solid Firewall. Try looking at ZoneAlarm and Outpost for free firewalls. Really, just see what you prefer. There are loads of choices. But if you want to spend money, which is a wise option in my view. Then there are many very good options open to you.
