Is updating a firewall as important as updating your anti virus definitions each day or week? because I had zonealarm pro 6.1 until I updated to the latest version which is 6.5 or something and then my computer just kept restarting over and over! then I went to safe mode and removed zap 6.5 and my computer stoped restarting

To answer your question... Yes it is important to update your firewall as Hackers find new ways to break through (software) firewalls the companies need to find a way to stop them so they come out with updates.. I would say once a month is good enough.

But as you see somtimes the udate does not always agree with your pc. In that case I would reinstall the update and make sure you have nothing else running and reboot when it asks. I have had trouble with ZA updates once in awhile but found reinstalling them helps 99% of the time

Just clarifying a little...To be truthful, updating a firewall is not as important as updating your anti-virus definitions. Many firewall updates are stability ones (fixing bugs), with a few extra features such as Spysite Blocking and Game Mode that you see in ZoneAlarm Pro/Suite 6.5. Rarely are security holes in reputable firewalls found.

With that said though, it is still advisable to update your firewall when there's an update pending.
