Default [Fixed] magical firewall!!

hey,
in a nutshell, few weeks ago installed norton internet security 2006, work alright for a while and then started stopping me from logging on to mail, banking info and any general security pages.....looked at and applied all the help in the norton guide, did nothing. eventualy gave up and unistalled norton, cleared the computer of all associated files and it still wont work. i assume it's a result of norton, but i might be wrong. any help would be awesome,
cheers

Hey there and welcome to PCHF spli11er

It sounds like you may have a pop-up blocker installed which is preventing you from accessing those pages.

These pop-up blockers are sometimes found in toolbars, e.g google toolbar.
  • Try uninstalling any additional toolbars that you may have.
  • Also open your internet explorer and click on tools - internet options - privacy - settings (under pop-up blocker). Is there anything in that list? if there is anything you need to use then click on the link and click remove.

Alright try clearing your temp folders including your Temporary internet folder.

A great way of doing this is as follows:
  • Browse to the following location on your machine
  • C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings
  • Delete everything inside the TEMP folder as well as the TEMPORARY INTERNET FOLDER.
Then open your internet explorer, go to Tools - Internet Options - Security and click on DEFAULT LEVEL.
Also scroll over to the Advanced tab and restore the default settings there.

Try your connection again.

Maybe you should install Norton again and look for any future that prevent you from opening websites. I thought that Norton itself has a pop-up blocker. Set it to default and uninstall Norton again. Other thing is that Norton leaves many register values after uninstall. Sometimes it can be a solution to delete everything in the register which contains the name symantec or norton, simply by clicking Run in Start Menu and then type 'regedit'. Go to Edit and and click search and type norton or symantec. Delete everything that match these names. But be carefull, only delete things of which you're sure that it has to do with symantec or norton.
