I'm having an issue that I was hoping some wise folk here could help me with.

I'll point form the synopsis and everything should make sense:
2 drives (several partitions each)
I had XP installed/working on the first partition of drive 0 and everything else was games/storage/etc.

I bought and installed windows 7 (home premium x64) on the first partition of drive 1 and everything worked great.

I'd boot up and get a menu for loading "windows 7" or "older version of windows"

When i'd boot windows 7 the drive 1 partition would be C: and the partition from xp would become D:

When i'd boot to XP the drive 0 partition would be C: and the windows 7 partition would become D:

exactly as I wanted it. I could boot back to xp and have everything the way it was and I can play around in windows 7 without affecting it.

It has been going well for about a week. (windows 7 has very few problems even with older games and it makes all my games run much smoother).

Today I rebooted after a minor video issue (set resolution wrong and my screen wouldn't work) and now there's no menu for starting XP.

If i set it to boot from drive 0 it just goes into an endless cycle of reboot (which seems to happen JUST before the boot menu appears)
I can set it to treat Drive 1 as the boot drive and then it will just boot to windows 7 without going to a boot menu.

Nothing was installed or changed. since yesterday when it booted fine.

any ideas?

Resolved: Maximum memory

I am trying to understand the memory in my PC as I don't think I'm using it all.
I did a system check using a freeware called System Information for Windows (SIW) and this is what I found:

System Summary
Physical Memory 3183 MB Total, 1052 MB Free

Memory Summary
Maximum Capacity 1024 MBytes
Maximum Memory Module Size 2048 MBytes

Slot 1 Capacity 2048 MBytes
Slot 2 Capacity 2048 MBytes

Belarc also suggests
3184 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

This is where I keep going round in circles.

Usable Installed Memory or Physical Memory 3183 MB Total suggests to me that this is the total amount that the system will use even though it recognizes 4096 MBytes are installed? Is this a true statement.

Someone once suggested that the rest is taken in overhead but I tend not to agree as we are talking about Physical Memory not Allocated/Unallocated Memory.

3184mb is about the total that a 32bit system can use but I have a 64bit system and that leads me to think I'm not getting the full potential.

I would appreciate some input on this

This problem started for me a few days ago out of the blue. I hadn't recently installed any new programs or drivers. It began with just the screen freezing for a second and then returning to normal with the error message "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I was running an EVGA NVIDIA 8800GTS 640MB card at the time. Nothing on the computer is overclocked nor has it been. Then the next day the error started to happen more frequently so I upgraded the drivers to the most recent release 191.07 WHQL. After this I started to see a lot of screen artifacts and began to run some diagnostic tools like FurMark, each time I tried to run this it would eventually freeze up the OS, resulting in either a BSOD with nvlddmkm.sys (0x00000116) to blame or just freeze up the screen and never come back until a system reboot. All of the temperatures were always within operating ranges. I tried cleaning out the drivers and installing various releases, as well as pretty much every posted solution I could find, but nothing helped. Attached are some of the pictures of the artifacts I was seeing. I decided to contact EVGA who told me to RMA the card as it was under warranty. Since there were graphic problems in the BIOS they thought it had to be the card malfunctioning and not the drivers, etc.

I thought all would be well and good from here, So i popped in the only spare graphics card I have which is a BFG NVIDIA 6200OC PCI. Unfortunately the problem continued to some degree. I no longer have the graphic artifacts, but I am still getting the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." error whenever I try to do anything even minimally graphics intensive, for example looking though the pictures I posted at a fast pace, or even run the Windows Vista performance rating diagnostic. I decided to go ahead and do a fresh install of Vista, and even with that I am still getting the error message. Note that the OS was current with all updates in both cases.

I was hoping it was simply a defective graphics card, but even with a new card and a clean install of the OS, I am still getting the error message. All of the images are from when the 8800GTS was installed. I have done all the basic stuff like checking the HDD, RAM, virus scan, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could be causing this problem? Please let me know if any other information might be helpful.

Thanks,
I want to install windows 7 on my laptop. But I was wondering. I use my laptop wirelessly all the time to connect to the internet. So, If i Install windows 7, will I already have the wifi internet driver installed? And also, I have a multi touch laptop, as well as a finger print scanner on here. If I installed windows 7, will the finger reader still be read? and for the multitouch feature, will I have to download and install the driver?

Hello all, I am wondering if you can help me with a giant problem I have been having with my pc. Seemingly after installing windows 7, the computer goes into random lag spikes and bogs down to the point where I have to either power down manually or wait for the computer to restart itself, which usually takes about 7 minutes...

Any advice? :/
