The problem is in device manager it says it is up to date and working but it wont recognise dvds(blank or recorded) although it will recognise cds(blank and recorded)?
Its as if it is working as cd-rom and not dvd-rom.

I have a DVD 740e External Lightscribe DVD Writer which i use for all my backing up and burning of discs i own. the problem i have is the region code has locked at 1. as i live in new zealand we are region code 4. when inserting a pal (region 4) dvd in to dvd shrink it say's to change the dvd region but you can't because there is no more changes left.

i've heard that you can flash the drive and it'll be fixed, but i don't know how. or, as a alternative should i just buy a new external burner???

What do you think? ? ?

My Compaq laptop worked WONDERFULLY for many months when i first got it. But recently I updated my PC and theres an error with my CD-ROM driver; Mostly, it cannot read discs AT ALL. So, i went to my device manager to see if I can fix it. Sure enough there's a yellow exclamation mark; I clicked look for solutions... nothing happened. Alright I'll try uninstalling right? But when it reinstalls itself it says there's another error while it was installing :BangHead:

Thus, I am not sure what to do next... The driver worked perfectly about 6 weeks ago, but now it's trying to drive me insane (like I need help!).

The driver I have is TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633B ATA device and my operating system is a Vista (lol if that makes any difference)

(code 41)" So how do I tell my computer to look here for the cd-rom?

The info I have search for online says my power supply could be going, but I can open and close the drive and I don't seem to have any other computer issues to suggest it is going out.
