I am a computer animation student, and i work on my personal computer as well as in the computer labs. When it comes time light and texture my scene, it's nearly impossible to switch between work and home because the difference in brightness and color is so drastic.
I was wondering if there is a tool (cheap too, poor and hungry art student) that i can take with me to the labs, record the color settings of the monitors, and then calibrate my home monitor accordingly.
I know there are tools like Spyder Express and Pantone Huey, but I assume the software is required on both computers. I can't install anything on the lab computers. Unless there were a portable version, something i could put on my flash drive.

Thanks

Hi my computer had been working fine with an NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT video card until a recent power outage. The resolution switched down to 1360x768 and it looks messed up. Before it was 1440x900, but that option is not available in the list of resolutions anymore. Also when I click the taskbar icon for the NVIDIA control panel the screen turns black for a few seconds before it pops up. My monitor is a ViewSonic VA1912wb. Any ideas of what's wrong?

Oh and I already tried reinstalling the video card drivers. Didn't work.

Hi people,

Since having no success trying to network or remote desktop with my Ubuntu & Windows machines, I bought a KVM box & leads, so I can at least use both machines without having to unplug & reconnect the monitor every change.

Connected it all up the first time today & IT ISN'T WORKING!@ The keyboard & mouse work fine on both machines, but the monitor, while it shows the boot up stuff OK & goes thru to show the desktop on both machines, says "Out of range!" on both of them. Can't make it work. Can't change anything on the actual monitor - menu won't come up.#!#

In the past, if I've been switching between machines, having to unplug & reconnect the monitor, *sometimes* when I switched it while the computers were on, it would come up with "Out of range!" & I resolved it by rebooting the machine in question. I thought it was some discrepancy between settings for Windows & Ubuntu. Now I'm not so sure. BTW, did try rebooting too.

Any suggestions?? Please?? TIA!

Can someone advise me on what to do? I really need help. Without getting these updates I can't do a lot of things.

Hello,

I made a post a few days ago about the monitor issues I was having, after it finally bit the dust once and for all I went out and bought a new one.

The model I bought is a:

Dell IN2010N 20" Widescreen.

After hooking the monitor up and installing the drivers everything seemed okay...that is until I tried to change the resolution. If I try changing it through Windows I get 3 different options. 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 720. When I was reading up about the specs of this monitor it was stated as having a max res of 1600 x 900 at 60 Hz. Catalyst Control Centre lets me select this option but Windows doesn't seem to pick up on it.

Ah, if anyone could help me out here I'd be most grateful as I'm at a loss as to what to do.

Monitor:
Dell IN2010N

GPU:
ATI 4850 X2

Thanks :)

Hi there.

I recentley decided to purchase a new case and a new PSU (Corsair 550w) seeing as i want to upgrade my GFX Card in the near future.

I have transfered all my components etc over to the new case exactly how they were fitted in the old case, however i am getting the message "No VGA Input" then "Monitor going to sleep" when i boot the PC, the base unit seems to boot fine sounding like its ready to log onto Windows.

Ive tried a new VGA Cable and made sure it is fitted nice and tight.

Ive reseated the RAM.

I have also tried taking the battery out and placing it back in which did work, i was on the PC all day, shut down at night, woke up next morning same thing happened (No Signal)

So im abit baffled atm, any suggestions?

The GFX card is intergrated.

Cheers.

I have a HP Pavilion a1101n Desktop PC with a Samsung SyncMaster 512n flat screen display. After restarting for an automatic update one day a few weeks ago, my desktop came back on in a "default" arrangement and the resolution was all weird. I attempted to change it back but must have set it to the wrong resolution, cuz the screen went to a 'bouncing' message saying something like “Not at optimal resolution, 1024x768 60mz recommended”. I couldn’t see the screen to change it, so I rebooted a couple times and it came back to the “default” desktop. I set the resolution correctly and was fine until the next time I had to restart. The message was back and I again, had to reboot til I got the desktop to appear again. This has happened a few times now, and I absolutely dread turning the machine off. I’m afraid all this rebooting is really bad for it.
Is there a saved configuration that I need to access and change to stop this from popping up? Are there a set of keystrokes I can use to change the resolution without seeing the screen? Do I need to update my video drivers? What is wrong with this thing!?!?

please help,
The reason i want to install drivers is i am trying to play a certain game and apparently according to customer support there can be an issue if vista detects the monitor as a plug n play device.
But i go to install the drivers and the installer just goes straight to "not responding"
