Hi guys

Been having a few issues the last couple of weeks and hoping you guys can direct me.

My system is about 4 years old, with different pieces being upgraded over the years. The motherboard and hard drive until recently were the original ones (I put it together myself). My hard drive recently died (clunks of death) and I had to start again, though had backed up. Bought a new WD 500gb HD, and I installed Windows 7 and decided to start from scratch. However I kept having random problems with the system just crashing, a few blue screens with writing, another with "BOOTMGR not found" or somethign similar, another screen with just the cursor like in DOS. Then when I restart, the BIOS isn't seeing my HD. After a few tries it suddenly does, not sure why, and everything is fine again.

I thought it might be the hard drive so bought another new HD and did the install. Woke up this morning and it's crashed as well, back to dos with the cursor flashing. Struggled to pick up the HD in the BIOS.

At this point I'm wondering if it's my motherboard. What do you guys think? Is there a way I can test to find out? I'm not opposed to upgrading (since it's 4 years old anyway), but I'd rather not have to buy one unless I know that's the problem.

Thanks for any help guys!

wrong motherboard for cpu?

Hello guys i was just after a bit of advice

basicly i bought a Asus m4a785d-m pro motherboard the other day and installed my AMD phenom II x4 965 black edition processor to it and it says the processor is unsupported so i did a bios update and it still says the same.

So i looked on the asus website and they say it supports my processor tbut the OPN (not sure what that is ) is not the same as the one they say

mine is HDZ965FBGIBOX there's is HDZ965FBK4DGM

I was just wondering what the risks are of running a motherboard with the wrong model processor are i mean the computer is running fine except the cpu fan is loud (stock) running at 5000-6000 rpm and cpu idle is 47degree's roughly

i was told by my local pc shop it could cause the motherboard to break or blow up(lol wtf ?)

And everytime i take off the heatsink and fan the processor comes off with it which i know isnt good at all ive put more thermal compound on it hopefully it will stop that problem

basicly im just a little worryed to be honest

any advice / help would be appreciated

Whats up people so the other day I came home after a weekend out, went straight to my pc. My mother had turned off the multiplug so as soon as I turned it on my pc went on as well. It did not boot, gave no displays, no beeps, no nothing. Only the lights and fans were running. On/off button wasn't working at all so I had to turn off the power supply.

So right now everytime I turn on the psu switch the computer automatically turns on but doesn't boot. Only way to turn it off is through the psu switch. I have an epox 9npa ultra motherboard that has an indicator led the displays a code that shows the pc status. It reads FF which according to the manual means "reserved".

I don't know if it's the psu or the mobo that's defective. Either way I really don't know what to do. I need some help guys, I'll greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I got a computer where the graphic card was fried to rebuild for my nephew. inserted all old and new components and started. no bios coming up no peeps no nothing except the fans and one memory led on the board.

before i throw the motherboard away, i was wondering if i can test the issue, meaning what i could do to find out if the motherboard is hmm dead.

it gets power the fans are running and i have a small light for the memory, but there are no peeps and therefore the monitor stays dark. I removed the battery and put it back in (does it really need 15 min?)

thanks

I unplugged the main power from the board and jumped the green to the black and the power supply fan kicked on and all the fans on the case came on. Hooked it back up, Switched from SLI to single video card. Un-hooked all drives (hard, DVD, Floppy) Put only one stick of ram in it. Still nothing. This is being such weaksauce.

Hello,

Recently my PC was hit with a series of viruses that forced me to wipe my HD clean and start over. I reinstalled XP but now my PC refuses to recognize the sound card (a Creative Audigy) or the internet connection. The internet is run through the Gigabyte motherboard. I'm uncertain exactly what the cause of this failure is but my many, many attempts to install and reinstall drivers have all been met with utter failure. I'm about at my wit's end with this so any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all,

After my last computer encounter (of the viral kind), I was bummed out so didn't touch my computer for weeks.

But now I'm forced to because my wife is tired of me hogging hers :D.

Anyways, to the point: My OS went down totally a few days after I last logged on here, so last night, I reinstalled it just so I could backup my important files before reformatting all my HDs and starting fresh.

The OS install went fine last night, I was even able to install my MB and video card drivers. But when I restarted to finalize those driver installs, this is what I found:

1. Computer hangs at motherboard logo screen (XfX, my manufacturer)
2. No beeps...I repeat, no beeps at all
3. The HD activity LED comes on, but it doesn't flicker off and on like it usually does, it just stays on constantly
4. The motherboard LEDs come on
5. CPU fan works

I've reset my CMOS by pulling the battery out for 5 min and putting the jumper on pins 1-2, then putting my battery back and jumper back to pins 2-3...no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've pulled the vid card and reinstalled it...no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've pulled my RAM and reinstalled each in both my slots to test the RAM and slots...still no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've cleaned out the dust from my heatsink and fan, same non results
I've kicked my computer 66 times (ok j/k on that, though I did want to)

I've done a bit of research since last night, and the only culprits left seem to be a bad MB/CPU/or PSU

Anyone with any ideas, or what I should try next?

Thx!

Hi everyone

So today my computer was giving me issues and after installing some drivers for my graphics card (radeon 9600 pro) and restarting, the computer wouldn't boot past the bios.

i decided to try all my options and tried to boot from the windows disk (as the error screen on windows 7 stated, telling me to click repair). I was unfortunately unable to get into the menu as i would get a blue screen with a whole bunch of numbers on it, and then the computer would stop responding.

i finally decided to try reset my bios settings. In the bios menu i clicked "load fail safe defaults" thinking that it would just set the bios to its factory settings.

Well i was clearly wrong because it immediately restarted and went to a screen that said "scanning bios image in hard drive......."
"bios auto recovering....." and then it would switch off, switch back on and do the same thing over again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jon

PS: Motherboard is a gigabyte GA8IPE1000 rev 2.0 (ancient computer i know)
