However when I put them in my computer it turns on fine, blinks but doesn't beep, and the monitor remains in standby. I tried numerous combinations of my old and new sticks but as long as a new stick is in there I get the same outcome. Everything goes back to normal if I have only my old sticks in there.

The new sticks of RAM say 2GB 800MHz 256x4. I heard my problem could have something to do with overclocking, I did not build my computer so I have no idea how to check my current RAM to see if it is overclocked or what I should do about it anyways.
Any help would be great!

I purchased 4 gigs G-Skill ram a few weeks ago, and I was running 4 gigs of corsair ram already. Everything was working perfectly fine for about 3 weeks, and then all of a sudden my computer started going ridiculously slow. Programs were crashing, etc.

About a week after the slow-down, my computer started up and gave me an error message (something to do with removable memory or something).

My computer would after this point only start up maybe 1/4 of the time successfully, and even if it did it would go extremely slow.

I then tested each ram stick individually to see if it would work. I noticed that my computer works fine when I have the 2 new ram sticks plugged in, but when I plug in the older ones it stops functioning properly (even if I just plug in one more).

I don't understand why 2 ram sticks would suddenly break. Is there an underlying issue that I may be ignoring? Such as voltage or something?

Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated...

Everything is perfectly fine right now because I have the 2 new sticks plugged in alone.

My PC won't recognise the extra memory that i installed, DDR 1GB 3200 (which should be compatible) it replaced a 512mb module and sits alongside another 512 module.

My pc only recognises it as a 512 but CPU-Z can see that it is infact totalling 1.5GB of memory. The BIOS only recognises 1GB, i have tried switching slots and only using the 1GB stick but again, it is only recognised as 512.

Both running at 2.5v, DRAM freq 133MHz, they are unbuffered, non paired.

My motherboard has EP-P4MKI written on it, but the crucial system scan says its a p4m266a, VIA chipset. This confuses me.

Does anyone think they might be able to help?

Hi, i have this weird memory problem where if both of my compatible DDR3 2gb RAMs are used it would cause my computer to crash. This crash corrupts important OS files preventing me next time when i reboot from entering windows or repairing it. The only solution when this does occur was to format the partition containing my OS. This is a recent problem, i have been using these two memory cards for a year now, they are the same modules hence compatible with each other.

I did the following when this problem occurred:

1. Mem test on each RAM individually
2. Mem test using different RAM slots
3. Mem test both RAMs together.

The only errors i got on mem test is when both memory cards were present. So i removed one of my RAM cards and all is working fine.

My question here is, is this a problem from the motherboard? One of the RAM cards? If anyone has experienced this before and knows what is causing this i would be really grateful if you would tell me, thanks.

Question: Will it hurt a PC if we install memory beyond the specified maximum? I have an HP Pavilion model which has specs that the motherboard can have a maximum of 2Gb. Of course, these days you can buy memory chips of 2Gb. What if I install 2 2Gb chips to make 4Gb . . . will it hurt the PC?

Thanks guys for your help and inputs.

I also read this
"Windows XP Service Pack 2 and later, by default, on processors with the no-execute (NX) or execute-disable (XD) feature, runs in PAE mode in order to allow NX.[11] The NX (or XD) bit resides in bit 63 of the page table entry and, without PAE, page table entries only have 32 bits; therefore PAE mode is required if the NX feature is to be exploited. However, desktop versions of Windows (Windows XP, Windows Vista) limit physical address space to 4 GiB for driver compatibility reasons."

My processor had XD bit feature enabled so am I already running the "PAE" So if I am already running that how come I cant use 8gb, is it just still locked against it, my computer, or something else

There is currently 512mb of DDR PC3200 on it and I want to upgrade.

Considering my needs should I go for another 512mb to run as dual channel (DC) for the perfomance incease DC is supposed to give, or pay the extra money and get 1gb more and run as 1.512gb single channel.

Also, generally will more RAM always exceed the benefits of DC, will 1.25gb single channel outperform 2 X 512mb dual channel or would perfomance be about the same or less.

Hi,

I have a desktop computer running XP Pro. I had 1 stick of 512MB Ram (not sure what brand, speed, etc) installed. I just bought 2:
CORSAIR 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Desktop Memory Model VS1GB333

I installed the 2 new 1 GB sticks alongside the original 512MB stick since I have a total of 3 slots. The memory shows up fine in My computer and using a program called Aida. However a few min after starting up for the first time after install I got a blue screen saying something about an error and had to manually restart. 2nd time I did not get the blue screen but a few min after loading windows the computer restarted by itself. I left it restart and load windows and then a few min later restarted again and I believe it will continue to do. I just powered it off.

Is the problem mixing the 2 new sticks with a different older memory stick? Or do I need to move the newer sticks into the Primary slot (which I am guessing is the one the old stick is in) and move the old one to a different slot?

I really have no idea on how to troubleshoot memory issues so any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
