Hello, this is my first time here and hopefully the last i'm here for support for myself haha

Here are my specs first:

KN8 NEO4 PLATINUM
seagate 80gb IDE
western digital 120gb IDE
western digital 1.5 tb SATA

(all the hd work)

bios was updated to 1.D , newest release

So let's begin,
I plugged all of them, enabled ide and sata options in bios, also set the hard drive as first priority to boot, loaded up winxp cd and formated all 3 to NTFS, i then installed the OS on the sata and let it load.
After logging on to windows, installing drivers and software, i did a restart and that's when i got a problem.

Each time it boots, it reaches "Verify Dmi pool" and right after displays twice "boot cd:" followed by "disk boot failure: insert system disk and press enter"

I don't understand why it isn't loading a second time.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

System: Dell Dimension 8400 P4 w/1.75 Gb RAM WD 80Gb HD (partitioned at roughly 50% allocated to a C: and D:)
Running WinXP SP3 Home

OS boots up and runs for the most part. All MS Ofc files will open however; I received a message about 1 corrupt file (.NET v2.0.50727/MSCORWKS.dll could not be loaded. Run Chkdsk /f).

After running CHKDSK /F on boot up, there were many files identified in stage 2 as corrupted and could not be fixed. At this point CHKDSK stopped, never making it to stage 3 and the system loaded windows XP.

I suspect the Master File Table (MFT) has been corrupted but not absolutely sure. In hopes of being able to correct the issue, I downloaded WD diagnostic program which gave a clean bill of health. So, I ran PowerQuest Magic v8.0 ->Check for errors. Results: D: partition was fine with no errors, C: drive found all kinds of files locked and then errored out to the point it rebooted the system.

I was able to use Acronis True Home Image to take a backup image. I thought I might reformat the C: drive and then lay down that image. I question if this would work or not since I believe the MFT to be on the image as a part of NTFS. I'm trying to avoid having to reload the OS from scratch and then all the applications and configuration.

Do you folks have any recommendations? :(

Hello there,

My Hard drive from my DELL Inspiron 6000 Laptop failed on me a few weeks ago and I had some stuff on there that I want to recover (if its possible).

So I have purchased a USB HDD enclosure. I plugged my old HD in it and connected it via the USB cable that comes with it. I straight away tried to go to My computer and tried to view the files from there. When I click on it (Drive E), it says 'E:/ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.'

The instructor manual that comes with the enclosure is poorly written. It talks about doing something by going into 'Computer Management' and then 'Disk Management'. But I can't follow what I have to do next. Here is how it shows up there :- none Pictures, none Images, none Photos, none Videos - Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

The HD that I am trying to recover data from is a Toshiba SATA drive btw.

I would be grateful to you folks, if you could help me out. :)

Thanks.

I am currently looking to update my system from scratch. I have some large directories which are slowing down my response time and access time considerably and am looking to buy a High capacity external Hard Drive to take my photograph directories and my 90 Gb music directory.
I have decided to go for a Seagate 1.5 TB 2.0 USB drive. I know nothing about these Hi Cap drives and wondered if someone could resolve some questions for me - many of the reviews are hazy on the basic basics (sic).

All say that the Seagate is 'drag and drop' which I understand. Can you also select the hard drive as a default location for downloads in the same way as an internal drive and is the directory tree and directory and sub directory creation handled in the same way ?

Thanx in anticipation.

Repair - as you know a hard drive has two types of cable plugs on it. Data cable (wide plug), and Power cable (narrow plug).

Hi, Hi!

I have a WD Portable Harddrive, about a 160 gig that I use for all of my pictures and college work, and recently I lost a cable but got it replaced, when I did so, I plugged the cable in to the pc and the device and suddenly it tried to install the device as if it were unknown. This not being the case as it had worked previously and having tried it on 3 comps, I know that its the device. When I worked it with my laptop it said I needed an extra driver and sent me to the WD website where I could down load the driver, but unfortunately I need to register it, and the Serial Number has rubbed off.

I remember that the driver I need is the WD Sync Driver. So it can synchronize with my PC but I dont know how to get it off the site, any help please?

I've had my computer since March of 2008 and four days ago it froze and refused to boot up again, always getting to the Windows XP loading screen, progress bar moving, and staying there for, say, a half hour before finally giving up and going completely black. In the pre-boot hard drive screen, I saw that my C: drive, a Seagate 500 GB, had suffered a SMART Event. My E: drive, two Seagate 1000 GBs striped in RAID 0, was apparently fine.

Earlier today I bought a Western Digital 500 GB to replace the SMARTed Seagate. Unfortunately, my computer uses SATA and has no floppy drives, so the Windows XP boot disc wasn't able to read the WD drive and I couldn't use my RAID/AHCI Driver floppy to enable it to do so. Following advice I found online, I switched the Drive Configuration in the BIOS from RAID to IDE, which allowed me to install XP onto the Western Digital. The aforementioned advice assured me that I would be able to switch back to RAID without problem.

Unfortunately, I can't. Trying to boot the computer in anything but IDE causes an inescapable restart loop when the computer attempts to boot and of course, booting in IDE prevents my E: drive from being read correctly by the computer when it is on.

I very much appreciate any help anyone can provide. I truly do need to get my E: drive running again as it contains all of my irreplaceable documents and such (I do realize it's dangerous to have irreplaceable documents on a RAID 0 volume).

Thanks for reading, desperate for advice,
