Hi, me again. I was today given a pc that was having problems so i reinstalled "microsoft windows xp pro sp3" and everything is now running like a dream except for the sound - there is none! When i try to play a music file in WMP 11 i get the following message;-

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

When i go into "adjust the system volume" it says "no audio device".

So i went to the Packard Bell website and found the sound driver (i think) for my motherboard here and still i'm left with nothing.

Motherboard is a Packard Bell bv istart 2369.

The microphone on my new Acer Aspire 5810TZ, running Windows 7 is not working. In the Sound control panel the internal device is enabled, and according to windows the hardware is working properly. I also checked the levels settings in the device properties, and that was also in order. I updated all the drivers and restarted, no change. I tried hooking up an external microphone, and also got no results. Skype informs me that there isn't a functioning microphone available when I make a test call

When I contacted Tech support via email, they told me to do everything that I had already done, which naturally didn't help. They had me to a power reset, also no change. Then they told me to do a complete system restore. :oZ I am a bit skeptical about this, and hoped someone might have some better advice before I invest many hours and tons of aggravation reinstalling my OS and programs. Is there any change their solution will help? Is there maybe a better way?

Thanks so much!

Hello I just installed windows 7 and have gotten everything up and running and now my speakers have a very low hissing noise. I am using
Creative SB X-fi sound card and 5.1 logitech speaker system. Its just a very low hissing noise almost like feedback of some sort low enough that when I am doing something I can't really hear it.

My sound other than that works totally fine. Just wanted to know if its normal background noise of the computer or if it is something conflicting and creating this hissing noise.

When i plug my headphones into my computer, i can't hear anything from it. But when i plug it into something like a Ipod, it works. What should i do? Is there anything i should download to fix this or something? I've been searching for a real long time already and still can't find a fix for this. What should i do??? My computers sound is okay though, nothing to worry about that. But it's just my headphones when plugged into the computer is the problem. I've tried about 3 headphones already and even bought a new one and still won't work. I've just about tried everything that i could. Please, if they is anyone that can help or give any information on this, please, tell me something. Oh, by the way if there is something like a software i should by to fix this problem. Please tell me what and why. Thank you if you can help me with this...

Hi all, Computer is a Gateway MFATXSTL ELP500C with Pent. 4 - 1.5 GHZ - 1 gig mem. (manfd. 11/2001) Originally it came with Win 2000 or Millenium. It was donated to our church and I am trying to set it up for a home-schooled girl. The computer was upgraded to Win XP sp 3. It had a Soundblaster Live! card. I went to Gateway support and downladed and installed the latest bios and hardware updates, including drivers for this soundcard. Still no sound. I pulled the card and checked it in another computer and it works just fine. I thought, "maybe it doesn't like this card, so I put in a Soundblaster Audigy with which it came with install disk. Still no sound. When I check the device with Soundblaster provided software, it say everything is working correctly. Yes, I've checked to make sure nothing is muted and have tried both analog and digital. Any ideas?

So pretty much I received a computer from my boss that i believe is suppose to be running Vista but i asked it to be downgraded to XP for obvious reasons. Everything including drivers, graphics, etc. work fine EXCEPT for my audio. Nothing I plug into my computer in the way of speakers or headphones is acknowledged by the computer. It has the RealTek HD audio manager installed and what it is SUPPOSE to do is pop up with a message saying what type of audio device you plugged in and where WHEN you plug it into the computer. Now i know the issue isn't the speakers i am using because on my older xp computer everything works fine, and all of which are plug and play, no separate drivers are needed to have them work. And as an added note the sound is built into the the motherboard, neither the front input or rear inputs work. AND my sound is not muted. Any and All help is greatly appreciated.

All music playbacks on my computer (all programs, CD's, and DVD's) don't play correctly. They stall and sound scratchy as if the computer doesn't have enough memory to do that and other stuff at the same time. BUT I have 4 gigs of RAM and a Dual Core processor and creativelabs sound card which all seem to be working correctly. I need some ideas of what I can tweak on my computer to fix this problem. I have tried changing the bit-rate and the Herz frequency but it doesn't seem to help one way or the other.

small overview:
Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2)
the computer is a Toshiba Satellite U305, with a sound card that is integrated into the motherboard

Recently, when I boot my computer, I won't get any sound coming out of the on-board speekers. The taskbar volume icon has a small X over it, and displays the message "no audio output device installed" when hovered over. In the sound menue, under playback devices tab, it says the same message. I haven't made any major changes to the system when this happened, and it's starting to bug me. If I connect an external USB soundcard, everything works fine through that, but I cannot get my internal speakers to respond! I've tried looking for viruses, safe mode, system restore, etc. and I haven't had any luck.

Also, around the same time, explorer.exe hasn't been starting with windows, and I'd have to start it manually with the task manager. Could these two problems be connected? Thanks!

Hey, I'll try and post as much info on the problem as possible.

I recently reinstalled XP onto my PC and now I have no sound. When I try to play a sound from the Sounds and Audio Devices thats in the control panel I get a message saying that the sound card is already in use.

In the device manager it shows the Multimedia Audio Controller with a yellow exclamation point by it, I've tried to update the driver there but it still doesn't work.

The PC is a Philips iQon, it didn't come with any discs so I have no idea what I can do to solve the problem. If you need any more info please let me know.
