I'm just wondering, is it possible my processor is now only running at half speed? if so, how did this happen and how can i put it up to max speed?

Is there any safety risks with putting it up to max? if so, what is the recommended speed i put it at? thanks

Hey there,

I've ran into this rather abnormal issue last week.
I've ran games, such as cod6: mw2, left4dead and devil may cry 4 mostly on mid~maxed settings flawlessly. However something snapped and all of the sudden I've started experiencing major lag in both cod:mw2 and left4dead.
(choppy sound, constant screen freezes)
However, despite the fact that dmc4 is obviously a next-gen game that requires alot more specs than left4dead, I can still run it flawlessly in 1680x1050 res "Super High" gfx setup.

Now all of this is rather confusing. I thought that maybe the issue would resolve itself upon reinstalling my OS, but even though I completely reformatted my system drive and moved from Vista to Win7, installing all of the up-to-date drivers, the issue is still there. I'm unable to run most mid-req games due to facing constant screen freezes, yet I can run devil may cry 4 all maxed out.

I checked temperature of both my gpu and cpu both of which vary from 40C to 45C even when running games. Considering that my gpu doesn't experience any problems running dmc4 on a maxed setup, I take it it's not a gpu related issue. The only thing that comes to my mind is the cpu, however considering that it doesn't experience overheating, that also puts me into confusion.

P.S. lowering graphic settings in any of those games doesn't show a slightest difference. The game lags/freezes just as much on the lowest performance setup as it does on the highest setup.
Yes I installed DirectX.
Yes I double checked all my drivers.
No, I don't have an abnormal amount of processes running in the background.
No, my ram isn't overloaded.

I'll try to post my pc details if needed, just tell me what app should I use to gather that info.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I've ordered a core i7 (still waiting because of royal mail) and I have been doing research on temperatures for the Core-i7 920 , I was shocked that they extended into the 50's and 60's.

So What is the maximum temperature that an 920 can take , like e8400 has temperature threshold of 70ish'c.

I also am thinking of getting a Titan Fenrir , but I heard that watercooling would be more suitable, but I have never used watercooling and .... um not really confident with the idea of it. I had the idea of a Domino COOLIT ALC.

p.s If I got fingerprints on my cpu top , would it affect temps.
Thanks.

I have a ASUS M3N78-EMH HDIM with an Athlon X2 4800+ 2.5Ghz and 3GB DDR2 6400.

When I go to my bios my CPU multiplier is 12.5 and FSB is 200 which is 2.5GHz, when I boot to windows Vista Ultimate and Opened CPUID here is a picture of the settings my CPU and memory goes to automatically:

I have tried everything that I know to change this in my BIOS but it always go back the X5 multiplier in Vista. Yesterday I managed to get it to stay at 12X multiplier and tried raising the memory speed to 533 but my system hanged and I had to reset my BIOS and could not get it to run at 2.5Ghz after that.

When running at 1Ghz my CPU temp is 42C when I managed to get it to 2.5Ghz my temp was 62C.

Someone please help me.

I have never heard of a pin mod but I have a Q6600 and I wanted to go from 2.4ghz to 3ghz by using this pin mod and it looks interesting. I was wondering how reliable this is and if there are any huge risks other than my CPU could break. The mod makes the fsb go from 1066mhz to 1333mhx so making my clock go higher. This mod I think is for people with a motherboard locked against Ocing which mine is. My motherboard, and RAM can support 1333mhz. If this is as easy as it looks I have to put electrical tape on a pin pad and put my CPU in and it should just work. If its that easy I would do it...free performance!!!

I posted this on the OS boards :http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-v...boot-rc-2.html.
I thought that my OS was my problem, but I now think it may be a CPU problem.

My symptoms are:

Random, arbitrary restart. No shutdown screen, just black, and a single BIOS beep, then it starts up again. I've talked to people at my school, and they think it may be that the CPU is not properly ventilated, or not connected to the heat-sink. My CPU (Intel i5 750) didn't come with thermal glue, or specifically point to it in the manual. However, I'm thinking I may need some.

I checked the fans, and every-time the PC shuts down, they're blowing out cold air, so the rest of the computer isn't overheating. Need I remount the CPU fan/heat-sink, and if so, should I pick up some thermal glue?:goodnight

Greetings,

My PC hasn't been working for nearly a month and I've gone through quite a bit of hassle trying to get it up and running again. A few friends on MSN have been advising me on what may be wrong and how to repair it, but I think getting some more opinions will do me some good. I'll try explaining what exactly went wrong and what I've done so far to fix it, and hopefully we can take it from there.

I was waiting in the server queue for the Aion Online early entry when my PC suddenly froze. A few minutes before this I smelled something burning but didn't really make much of it. I hit the hard reset button and my PC powered off completely, then would not power back on. The closest I could get it to powering on was waiting about ten minutes and hitting the power button, which made the LEDs and the fans activate for half a second before it went completely dead again.

I am not very experienced with PC hardware but with some advice from friends I managed to built my PC on my own. I asked the same friends to advice me on how to fix this problem and they said it is most likely the PSU, Mobo or CPU. I have purchased a brand new PSU and yet the problem remained. I also purchased a brand new Mobo, and still nothing has changed. This leaves the CPU to be replaced, which will be costly compared to the PSU/Mobo replacements. I've yet to buy a replacement CPU since I didn't want to spend roughly £150 without getting some feedback from you guys first.

My friend said it's unlikely that the video card or RAM is the cause of this issue because you don't need a video card to power the PC on and if the RAM was dead then the PC would make a beeping sound at the very least, which it doesn't do. So what I would like to know is what you guys think is the most probable piece of hardware that needs replacing, do you think the CPU is the only piece left that hasn't been addressed or am I missing something else?

I hope this information is enough to get the ball rolling, and I would greatly appreciate any advice to help me resolve this issue ASAP. I'm using a Netbook in the meantime and it feels as though I'm back in the stone age already.

Hey everyone :)

I would like to hear from all users of the AMD 9950 of their cpu temps both at idle and underload. Generally, at idle my cpu sits at ~48°c and can reach upto ~60°c but typically goes to ~55°-58°c. I use the Zalman 9500 cooler with arctic silver. Also I have one 120mm front inlet fan and two 120mm rear/side exhaust fans. My ambient temp doesn't really exceed 75°f.

What really pushed me to post this, was on my latest build I used an AMD 955 with the same cooler, same compound and the case with generally the same fan usage and found it to idle at ~39°c and upto ~46°c under load.

So..... am I crazy, or is there something I'm missing? :?

Thanks everyone
