Right now, I have a problem connecting to the internet from a wired connection. When I go to the networking and sharing center, Bluetooth and wireless connections are the only connections available.
I may have turned an option off somewhere,.. but i can't seem to find it.
As shown in the picture, the icon showing whether the wired connection is on or off doesn't even show up, whereas it was normally next to the wireless connection. I would like to know how to bring the wired icon back so I can directly connect to the internet and not be strictly limited to wireless

I had a slow performance on the Interet and transfering files from the Internet and between servers.
config : HP Vectra VL420, Pentium 4 1,7GHz, 1,5 GB ram, net card Linksys WiFi WMP45G v1.0
the driver that Win7 used is the Broadcom BCMMWL6 5.30.21.0
My router is a Motorola.
My transfer speed was 18KB/s... that PC with XP used to go to easily 250KB/s.
After looking at a lot of forums, even disabling the anti-virus, the Firewall and the Remote Differential Compression.
Nothing changed.
I wired my PC to the router and the speed was ok... so it is not Win7 with the PC, but Win7 and the Net card.
I saw that in the Device manager, there was a Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport that installed at the same time. I disabled it and ... I know have the same performance as before.

If it can help anybody...
Regards

Hello

Im new here and hoping someone can help.

I work away from home and generally stay in serviced appartments which have no phone line and therefore no internet access.

Ive been using a Vodafone mobile broadbamd dongle foor the last couple of years and all is well with that.

Ive recently been bitten by the Call of Duty bug but cant play it on my laptop as its not man enough for the job.

I have a PS3 which i often take with me for dull evenings.

I want to use my laptop and its usb dongle broadband and share this internet connection with the PS3 so that i can play Call of Duty online.

I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop. I have tried to share the internet connection as per the instructions on the Microsoft website but by using a crossover cable directly from laptop to PS3. I right clicked on the usb broadband device, selected properties and then went into the sharing and ticked share this connection.

All i get from the PS3 is that it cant gain the IP address. The PS3 is set to auto detect IP settings. Where am i going wrong?

PS3 only accepts internet connection via its Ethernet connector so cant use the dongle directly plugged into the PS3.
The laptop is showing the PS3 as a LAN connection (i think) and the mobile internet connection is showing that it is shared.

I use dial up connection and it has worked fine, but now a problem has appeared and I ran out of ideas while trying to solve it. This is my problem: when I try to connect the modem is dialing and then I get a message The remote computer did not respond. It wouldn't be strange if my notebook didn't want to connect elsewhere. But using a friend's telephone line I have no problems connecting my notebook. So this shouldn't be a configuration problem? Also, my friend doesn't have problems connecting when using my telephone line. So it's not a line problem. I tried to set up new connection but it's the same again. Please, if anyone has an idea of what else I could try I would be really grateful!

I'm using a dell xps 400 I have a arris modem and beklin router. I have multiple computer connected that work fine on the internet, but after I restored my computer with the recovery disk I haven't been able to get on the internet. At first my computer didn't recognize that I had a network adapter. So I checked on the dell website to see which network card I have and I downloaded the correct driver for it. Now it find the network adapter fine and it says I'm connected to the internet. I am sending out packets, but not receiving any. I've tried contacting my ISP which is US cable and they said its something with my computer. I've reset my router and modem both and still nothing. Before I did the recovery my computer worked fine. Please help me.

Is there a way to hook them both up to the gaming adapter at the same time, say with some sort of splitter? They are never accessing the internet at the same time, since I can only use one at a time, so conflicting IP's shouldn't be a problem. Any ideas?

Hi,

I am trying to network 3 computers together for LAN parties at my house (mostly RTS games like Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, etc.). I have been having some issues. Right now I am using a simple switch with each computer connected to by a cat6 ethernet cable. I tried numerous tests by creating network games on age of empires to see if they could recognize each other.

For ease of explanation, we'll call them computer A, computer B, and computer C. Here is what I determined by creating a network game on each computer:

Computer A
Will not recognize computer B
Will recognize computer C

Computer B
Will recognize computer A
Will not recognize computer C

Computer C
Will recognize computer A
Will not recognize computer B

So, computer B is not recognizable, but computer C is not recognizable only by computer B, and computer A is fully recognizable. This is very strange to me. I have tried this with firewalls off and that didn't matter.

Also, the IP addresses on each computer (for TCP/IP v4) are 192.168.1.102, 192.168.1.103, and 192.168.1.104 The computers all have different names and belong to the same workgroup. I have administrator privileges on all of them. All computers are running windows 7 ultimate x86. Computer A is a desktop with up-to-date hardware, Computer B is a 1 year old laptop, and computer C is a ~6 year old desktop.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks

I recently had my desktop fixed and I’m now struggling with my LAN, especially with printing from my laptop. This was previously possible.

The desktop is the ‘main” PC. Connected to it is an Oki 4100 printer, a HP Officejet 5610. Both are connected to the desktop with USB cables. Then I have an ADSL modem that is connected to the desktop. Everything works perfectly. I had to re-install the drivers of the printers. I can print on both printers, I have internet connection, etc.

The problem is printing from the laptop. The laptop is connected to the modem by cable and by wireless. I am unable to print from the laptop to these printers, but my internet connection is good.

I did the following:
Re-installed the printer drivers on the laptop
Changed my Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties from “obtain an IP address automatically” to manual settings

I am for instance able to use Synctoy?!

Any advice will be appreciated

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to fix a slow connection problem I have for hours now and am nearly pulling my hair out.

I have a BT internet connection, a BT Home Hub, A Laptop, A 360 and a desktop PC.

My Xbox 360 connects at a very fast rate and is wired to the router, my laptop has speeds of approx 7mb (Asus G1) Wireless connection using internal WiFi card

My Desktop with a Edimax 7728in wireless card struggles to reach 2mb speed

The wireless card and the router are both N standard and I have been trying to tweak settlings on my PC for ages now and I just can't get the speed up, not only that but the speed is also not constant and frequently drops out, I couldn't even upload a vid to youtube yesterday as it was dropping out and had to transfer the vid to my laptop to upload it.

I built the PC myself and has as follows: -

-Intel dual core E5200
-3326mb ram (4gb but i understand my 32bit version of windows struggles with reading it?)
-Windows Vista 32bit
-Edimax 7728in Wireless PCI card

If anyone could help me I would be most grateful, thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am trying to run an SSH server on one of the hosts on my network. I've set up copSSH on that host. When I use putty to connect directly to that computer, it works.

My network is behind a DSL connection. So I have a DSL modem (Proline), which has a public IP, and a private 192.168.0.0 address behind it. It is hardwired into a Netgear WPN824 wireless router, which has one interface on the 192.168.0.0 network, and all of the hosts on a 10.0.0.0 network.

The next step was to set up port forwarding on the router. When I try to SSH to the 192.168.0.0 address on the router, I get a connection to the host. Yes!

Next I went to set up port forwarding on the modem. I set it up to forward TCP port 22 to TCP 22 on the router. When I go to any of the online sites to test my ports, I see that port 22 is open. However, when I try to connect in with putty, I get a "Network error: Connection Refused".

How do I trouble shoot this? Am I missing a setting on the router? Is is possibly an error because I am coming from inside the network trying to access the outside IP (I can't see why this would be a problem)? There is nothing between the two devices... I'm stumped.

Hello everyone,

I have been running XP for some time on 2 desktop PC's. I upgraded one to Windows 7. I need to keep XP on the other one for use of some programs that are incompatible with 7. To keep things simple I named 7 - Adults, and XP - Kids. Windows 7 can see and access XP but XP wants a password to see 7. When I try to access windows 7 it asks for a user and password.

The problem I have is that I don't know the user. I tried both Kids and Adults and neither worked. Is there a way to disable the password option? The only thing I see that I can do is change the password, but that didn't help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Tye

Resolved: Setting up ICS with WAP54G

Hi all.

I consider myself to be pretty computer savvy, but I will readily admit networking isn't my strong suit. I can set up a basic network, with shared folders and all that, but this is a little over my head.

My family lives in the woods, and our broadband connection is an Alltel air card. It gets the best signal in my bedroom, hooked up to my desktop, so we're wanting to run ICS on my desktop so that we can all share it (the big kicker being that I can play WoW without annoying everyone else). I can't seem to get it working, however, at least with my WAP45G access point. I cannot ping it or configure it at all, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the issue is.

My network is set up as follows:

Air Card - PC (running Vista Home Premium 64) - Switch (connected through ethernet port) - WAP54G (connected to switch - everyone else uses laptops around the house)

My desktop's IP is 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, just like an ICS box should be. In Network and Sharing Center, the ethernet connection is permanently shown to be at limited connectivity. The access point has been reset, and I've already tried connecting it directly to my desktop.

What could the issue be?
