I operate W7 with MS IE8. For some reason I cannot log in to my ISP account (Waitrose) from my home computer. Message comes up saying invalid user name or password -but both are definittely correct. I have no problems logging in from work computer (also W7 + IE8). I have spoken to the Waitrose technical support but they cannot find the reason. I assume that I need to adjust a setting or two somewhere. Can anyone help?</p>

I'm looking for a decent browser that doesn't take up much system resources/memory. I normally use Firefox but find that some websites (especially some games on Facebook) run extremely slow due to me running low on memory.

Anyone know of any browsers that use low amount of system resources/memory?

Thanks

Hi All

When I first log onto my computer, I can't access the internet by simply opening my browser and clicking sign on, I have to click on start, control panel, network and sharing center, manage network connections and then I have to right click on the broadband connection and click connect. After doing this I can then open my browser and sign on.

Also if my modem (BT voyager 190) loses power while I'm online I have to restart the computer then re - establish the connection using the same method before I can sign on to AOL.

This problem first occured when I attempted to run the AOL broadband modem set up tool. As I could never complete the process successfully I had to exit the modem set up tool before it had finished, at this point I received a warning which informed me that if I exited I may have difficulties signing on to the internet. I have phoned AOL about this but they have been unable to solve my problem.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me find a solution to this problem.

I was using the AOL browser (absolutely unbelievable that it's still such garbage after all these years)because I had to access some features only available through it. get.media from media.fastclick.net pops up and wants to download...something - I have no idea what. I can't get rid of it even by right clicking on the taskbar to close it. So I close the browser for 5 minutes, open it and it pops up again. How can this happen?

Now it's default_151496-19.js from cdn.fastclick.net. Not sure where these
things are coming from.

I bought a new Toshiba Laptop a few weeks ago with Windows 7. Ever since then, I get the feeling that my PC randomly resets the internet Im on... Wherever I am. First I though it was Google Chrome just being messy, but I see now that even FireFox and all my online games gets these random lag spikes and internet bugs.

More detailed:

Now and then, usually between 5-30 min, I notice a lag spike while playing a game. This lag spike either makes the game stop and give me a very high ms, or it disconnects me completely.

While surfing the web, it feels like the internet stops working like every third new web page I open. It will say "Page not found", and if I wait 10 sec and then update the page, the page loads and everything is "fine".

As you can imagine, this is very frustrating! And the worst part is, while Im at my friends, and we both are on the internet, they get the same issues as I have now, most likely because my PC creates it. Of course I have always blamed something else, and Im still welcome at my friends, but deep inside myself, I know something is wrong with this thing Im typing this thread on. Any tips?

Hey, when it comes to this aspect of PCs i'm pretty newbish :P.

So, I have Windows XP (freshly installed) so there is 0 on it. I plus my ethernet cable in which should automaticly connect me to the internet like it does on my sisters laptop (which im using just now).

On my sisters laptop there are two PCs on the bottom left, when the ethernet cable is connected then the two PCs indicate the internet is active by putting a small world on the item.

On windows 7 i noticed the same thing, and i can't really remember but you get the same on XP too. but my problem is, the two PCs aren't even there to begin with to tell me that i'm not connected.

After i plug my ethernet cable in, nothing happens. I checked hardware manager and there were a few unidentified items, i tried to fix them hoping one had to my my ethernet cable and modem but no luck..

I've tried everything, reseting my modem, tried setting up a manual connection and ive tried a good few things but i can't get it to work.

What sucks even more is i just made a paid account on a game i play (Anarchy Online) and now I can't play it!

What can i do??

Windows XP. Sky Modem, Lost the sky disk but read online you don't even need it, it doesn't contain ANYTHING to start your internet up, aparantly.

Please help :P

Just ten minutes ago, I decided to listen to the Classic FM radio station online. I went to the website, clicked on `listen now` and everything was fine. I minimised the screen so that I could continue listening and browse other websites and all of a sudden, the music stopped. I opened the screen to see what was going on and a box message appeared saying something about it wanted to open or download or something (sorry, should have written down what it said before canceling) ::). I cancelled it and after closing the Classic FM window, my internet connection failed? #!#

I rebooted. Nothing. I tried to get Internet Explorer back up. Nothing. So eventually, I shut down and switched the laptop off and the modem. I`ve just been able to come back online and report this. But here is some more information:

When my access failed, I saw in my address bar the address dsldevice.lan

On the page itself, it said - Speedtouch - THOMPSON ST510 Network error. The requested host could not be reached. Click on the link below to retry. The link being my Home page www.tesco.net

My internet light went out on my Speedtouch modem, but the Ethernet, Power and DSL were okay. It was`nt until I turned everything off at the mains and switched it all on again that everything went back to normal?

What could have gone wrong? I hope it does`nt happen again. This all occurred after going to the Classic FM radio station website. It was playing fine until it went silent. I maximised the screen and that`s when this box appeared asking me to open it or download it. I can`t remember what it said now. I guess I did`nt trust or understand what it was and by cancelling it, this may be why I got this problem?

Any ideas?
