I have had multiple errors with my cd-r/rw drive. It works fine when it wants to then sometimes it tells me that the disc inserted is not writable and to insert a writable disc. It first acts as if it will burn and starts process then stops in the middle. It has started doing this 90% of the time when I try to burn a disc. I am a photographer and so my disc drive is essential. I am on an Hppavillion a705w and am using model number ced-8083b for my disc drive. It is not the original drive, it was put in by a tech when my original drive gave me the exact same problems. I have also tried switching it out with another cd-r/rw drive from an hp computer and had the same errors. I think it is something in my computer and not the disc drives. Please help.

I just bought a movie that isn't copyright protected. it is on a DVD9. so i downloaded magic DVD copier. I put the movie in my F: drive and a blank DVD4.7 in my E: drive. i burnt the DVD9 to two DVD 4.7's (thats all i had at the time) and it worked fine. i decided to go to the store and buy some DVD9's. and for some reason they will not burn. does anyone know why. i have used magic DVD copier, like 5 others on the internet. and Nero. the F: drive reads perfectly fine but when it gets to the burning process there is an error. one of the programs even went through but didn't actually burn on the disc.

So if anyone knows why this is occuring i would really appreciate the help.

Ok,

I've just setup an old pc to use whilst my other ones being fixed and I can't get the DVD RW drive to recognize that there's even a CD-R in the the drive.

I've tried using Itunes and Nero to burn Audio CD's and as soon as I click 'Burn' it just ejects the CD-R and says 'please insert a blank CD-R'.

The drive seems to read everything fine... although it seems slow but it is fairly old.

Any help would be great.

So far all I've tried is removing the DVD-RW drive from the device manager and restarting so it 'rediscovers' the drive.

First post on what seems to be a very respectable place to ask !

Here goes:-

Have HP ZD8369ea "laptop" which sits in the kitchen and used as the general "everything" machine (we have others around the house)...

I recently wanted to change the hard disk so happily went to burn the copy SW from the new disk website to swap over to the bigger new HD...... and could not - it would not write to the burner (TSST TS-L532M).... tried every type of disk I had in the house (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and some of the -RW's I could use on other burners ok.....

So, - burnt the SW on another PC - booted fine on the ZD8369ea... Infact it will read anything and everything - but write nothing. Even tried booting BARTs PE - and it boots fine - but the CD burning SW included just hangs when I try to use it.....

So - what have I done so far:-

1. done the low/high limit thing (used the Microsoft "fix-it" tool for that.

2. removed the device from control panel and rebooted and let it find it again..

3. tried all sorts of burner SW (result it the same - it will not write)

4. fitted replacement drive (yep - I gave up and thought it had to be duff !)

5. played with every setting of the IMAPI service

6. re registered the ole32.dll

7. checked I have the latest drive firmware (original drive has HR08 which seems to be the latest -the replacement has HR04)

8. lost touch with my family and spent a lot of last night dreaming about what could be wrong ! (SAD !)

So, just incase I have missed anything- please any other ideas? I have to say it's consumed far too many hours so far !

My config is HP Pavilion ZD8369ea, XP sp3, 2GB, 320GB WD GDD

I also have avast running...

So, just incase I have missed anything- please any other ideas? I have to say it's consumed far too many hours so far !

Cheers !
