Hi everyone,

Sincerest apologies for crashing in and having the cheek to ask for help without the common courtesy of introducing myself elsewhere but I'm on work's time and I desperately need a problem solving.

Basically I work for a small charity and I have to be a jack of all trades to keep things ticking over. As such, I am the designated IT guy even though I'm not brilliantly technical.

The problem : We use Outlook 2003 to get our mail and we're being absolutely hammered with spam. Aside from the filters in Outlook, is there a way to stop it or at least cut it down? I've tried our ISP but they were about as much use as an inflatable dartboard.

I've also tried the filters but I found they kept deleting 'proper' mail. I need a relatively clever system since we're on a lot of mailing lists to keep us up to date with things and I need Outlook - or the system I put in place - to be able to recognize this.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Nope unfortunately not. I wish we did. But I can contact our website host with requests. Anything I should ask for? And if there is anything specific I should ask for, how much is it likely to cost a host to implement such measures?

Obviously I'm sure you can appreciate that cost is everything to a small charity and expensive programs, whilst an option, would be something we'd be trying to avoid.

I'm hoping they wouldn't charge you for a simple addition of a server-side spam filter. You need them to enable an application such as Spam Assassin on your hosting account..better yet, see if they will give you a CPanel.

Those options aren't available to us unfortunately. Long story as to why but I'm capable in Cpanel but do not have access to it.

However, someone suggested SpamFighter and I have installed that and it's working like a dream.

Thanks for your help, guys. Just wanted to finish up and give a conclusion in case anyone else searches and has the same problem.
