Default [Answered] email problems with BT/Yahoo when using broadband

Not too sure if you can help or point me in the right direction. I have just taken up Toucan broadband, from previously using BT Yahoo pay as you go dial up. I have been managing emails through Outlook 2003. This works fine with the old BT dial up, but when I use the Toucan broadband, I can receive emails fine, but when I send them, it states that the server has rejected my login details and keeps poping up with the login window. I know the details are correct because I can receive emails and can log onto my BT webmail with them.

I've done all the normal checks, but can't resolve it and I don't want to call BT helpdesk @ 50p per min, when I know they won't have much of a clue.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm using broadband or a wireless router.

Error message.

Task 'mail.btinternet.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'

Any suggestions

Hello glen, welcome to PCHF.

You can only send out via the BT SMTP server, using their SMTP address, which used to be either mail.btinternet.com or relay.btinternet.com.

If your unsure on how to change this, hopefully this document will help: SMTP For NonBT Email (make sure that you only use your BT address for outbound e-mail only).

EDIT: Marked as Answered.
