This question isn't about spam, so hopefully I'm posting in the right forum... If not, all apologies!
My old email account would run "clean ups" every so often and compress all of my existing emails into .gz files in order to save what little room it could for incoming emails. The problem with this is that my old email account is about to expire soon and I haven't quite figured out how to open up the .gz file in order to view all the archived messages that I hold dear to my heart! I downloaded WinZip (the trial version) and PowerArchiver 2007 (freeware) and opened the .gz file in both. When I click to view the .gz file in Notepad or other text programs, I get a long string of emails condensed into one document. Some of the emails are readable but 90% of them are in gibberish, long strands of incoherent letters and symbols... What am I doing wrong? Do I not know how to use WinZip properly? Do I need some sort of add-on to view the jumbled up messages? Or is all hope lost and I will never be able to recover these messages?
I would appreciate any advice on this matter and truly hope that I've sufficiently explained the situation... If I'm posting in the wrong forum, please forgive me (I'm a newbie) and redirect me if possible. Many thanks!
Take care,
Aubrey
