Unhappy [Resolved] MS Exchange Sever cannot send or reply to a specific email.

Hello Everyone,

The following text appears when I try to send a email to a specific email.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

#5.5.0 smtp;503 This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the domain or address is defined for this server.>

I keep getting this message everytime I try to send an email. I am connected to a network and we are running ms exchange with a spam filter software called ORF. I change the settings ORF by adding the recipents to the whitelist filter and the domian. I dont know what can be the problem. Only if the recipent is rejecting me, i think that may be issue not sure. Any help will be greatful.

Thanks,
Stapia

Hi and welcome to PCHF! I'm not familiar with Exchange Server however there is probably something that says something like Server Requires Authorization or something like that and you would need to enable it. Otherwise, can you send mail to other domains or is it just this one causing your problems?

Thanks,
Adam

I can send email to other domains just fine. I have check on the sever through exchange and outlook for a button or description that is similar to "Sever Requires Authorization" and i cant find anything. The sever does run a spam filter and I have already added the email's domain to the system and yet i have no luck. The only thing i can think of is that the recipent is blocking me.

Well, that could be the case. I don't know much about Exchange Server so I will let one of the techs handle this one.

Hi stapia, welcome to the PCHF.

This sort of error normally comes up - i believe - when the domain you're sending to requires your domain to have a reverse DNS address.

It's a Exchange function to reduce the amount of spam that is received...works well, but breaks it for everyone who doesn't have a reverse DNS.

Check with your ISP, as they will be able to tell you or not if you have a Reverse DNS and if you can get one.

I figured out the problem or part of the issue the ip address was pointing to a certain domain when looked up. When using a reverse DNS lookup it was pointing at a different domain. Called up the ISP had them redirect the IP to the same domain. It fix some of the issues not all, once in a while we will still get the error. But I believe that's because the other domain still exist exchange still may think its wrong.

Sorry for the long delay got caught up with work.
