Default AOL retrieving email addresses

A friend at work (honest) has recently moved from AOL to tiscali. However before she moved she didnt save or copy any of the email addresses stored on AOL. I have looked into trying to retrieve them, but apparently those kind people at AOL encrypt your emails. She has tried logging back onto her old account but it is now locked, I know there are programs which allow you to copy from AOL, epreserve being one i think. But you still need to log onto your old account to use it. Can anyone think of another way around this?

Hey Sbowler,

You know this sounds more like a work with than a work around. Has your friend tried talking to the people at AOL?

Do you know if there is a file on your friends computer that held, encrypted or not, her personal data for her emails? I know that MSN does, some others do not.

If there is, she should be able to find someone at AOL who can help her to retrieve her personal contact information.

If not, perhaps, I could contact them for her, and find out if there is a way to get them back.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Tnx for the reply. She has contacted AOL but because they locked her account when she left they say they cant help. It seems that she hadnt backed up her addresses before canceling the service. AOL encrypt all emails and addresses so its very difficult to copy them to another program. She should have wrote them all down on paper before canceling. Lesson learned I think..

Unfortunately, all mail programs encrypt, it's part of their ownership. However, if she knows the file that they were saved in, there may be ways to at least access some of the information.

Unless of course, you are ready to leave it as a lesson learned, .

Let me know.

Looking forward to your reply,
