I'm new here. I thought this site looked like an ideal place for help! I'm running Windows ME and I have Outlook Express 6.0, everytime I try to download my email it freezes up after about 4 messages then when I try to close Outlook Express I can't and end up having to reboot my computer. How can I retrive my email? Do I need to re-install Outlook Express? if so where can I download it again?? Any help would be appreciated greatly!

looking at a similar thread elsewhere, someone else has had problems like this due to their detonator drivers :lol:

what graphics card have you got?

another solution might be that you have an infection, try scanning for spyware and virii, then post an update?

Are you upto date with windows updates as well?

Another thing to try and do is once it is downloading the 3rd email press the "Stop or Cancel" button. It will then download the 3rd email and stop.

You can then try and send/receive again and see whether the 4th email comes through or whether it jams again.

Try removing OE and then installing it again

Go to > Control Panel > Add remove programs > Add/remove Windows Components > un-tick Outlook Express in the list (this will un-install OE so back up your messages and address book etc) > click next and come out of that window. Then go back in and put a tick back next to Outlook Express (this re-installs a clean copy). Click next and exit out of Control Panel.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I don't know what Graphic Card I have SpellByte, sorry.? And I do the Windows Updates frequently. As for the canceling the email download before it gets to the 4th email, I tried it about 5 times then it just makes my outlook express unable to close. I also have Nortons Anti virus and it updates and then scans once a week. So now i'm going to go try what Hengis suggested. I will let you guys know if it works!
