I recently bought a new Canon camera model G10. The software that came with it was loaded without a problem. However when attempting to download pictures from the camera I keep getting an error message stating Canon Utilities Camera Window DC has encountered a problem and needs to close. Apparently the camera does not communicate with the Canon software. Is something turned on or off in the Windows XP Home Addition with service pack 3 that is preventing this. Canon techs can not figure out what is wrong.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I'm unfamiliar with that camera or it's software package, but i can mark your thread as open to try and encourage a response from the really clever bods amongst us... I know it's not ideal, but if you have one use a card reader and read the memory card without the camera |

Hello rjacobson and Welcome to the Forum!
![]() One thing to check is the update version of your software. There is often an update even if you just got the camera. Which OS are you using? Edit: I see that your Camera has an Updater dated 12/o4/08. Have you installed this update? And if so, was the software working properly prior to this? That's quite a rig ya got there too! ![]() http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...nloadDetailAct |

I got a new Canon camera a while back, it loaded a ship load of apps and utilities on to my computer. I have not had any trouble with this stuff, but it's a load of bloated carp to do a simple job.
I now use Picasa to manage my Canon it's simple and effective to use... Picasa 3: Free download from Google

Even without a card reader, if you are connecting your camera thru USB, all you should need to do is look for it under My Computer.
If you were to use the Picasa Arctos suggested, you can have the program look for the information on your Camera there. I use a Nikon and with no hint of that software in the system, accessing pictures is no trouble. Frustrating, it is tho, to not be able to use what you paid for, I'm sure. Hopefully one of these suggestions helps. Let us know!
