Default PSU Unit

Hi Guys, I have an Intel 945 GNTL motherboard , 4GB RAM , 200GB SATA HD , Sound Blaster Audigy Value, a DVD writer and a Geforece 8600GT

I am planning to replace my graphics card and upgrade it to XFX GTS 250 (Prototype made me do it!), so heres the question , what kind of PSU will be best for this , also since my motherboard does not have a PCI 2.0 port will it effect the performance of XFX GTS 250, if so than how much?

Hi
The major difference between PCIe 1.1 and PCIe 2.0 appears to be the power provided to the Graphics Card through the mainboard.

PCIe 2.0 mainboards slots are backward compatible with PCIe v1.x.

PCIe 2.0 cards have good backward compatibility and new PCIe 2.0 graphics cards are compatible with PCIe 1.1 mainboards, meaning that they will run on them using the available bandwidth of PCI Express 1.1.

Overall, Graphic Cards or mainboards designed for v 2.0 will be able to work with the other being v 1.1 or v 1.0.

I have only found a reference that the performance drop on a version 2.0 card inserted on a version 1.1 slot is max ~2fps.

I think is much more stable now.

I had problems with it when it first came out, but not any more.

Some things are annoying, but it could be I'm getting older...

if you are looking for a psu, any Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, or Antec branded psu will be good. im sure there are a few others, but those are some that I have found to be very reliable.

i actually needed to know the wattage but i found a similar post and got my answer , very handy tool " eXtreme Power Supply Calculator" props to mad monkey!!

I don't want to make another post and bother you guys , so quick question , should i update from 8600GTS to XFX GTS 250 1GB? how much amount of performance difference should i see with this? will i be able to run Prototype and its counterparts on high settings withou experiencing slow gameplay?
