Default help!! please aspire 5310 , black screen

hi could someone please give me instructions on how to flash my bios please , ive seen sites saying something like , download latest bios version , put on usb drive , put usb drive in laptop ,hold fn and esc keys , press powerbutton , keep holding fn and esc key for 7/8 secs then let go when the power led starts flashing , comp should shut down after approx 8 min and reboot , job done , but i cant find anywhere that says instructions for aspire 5310 model , i dont want to do it unless 100% sure it works on this model . my reason for wanting to do this is my lappy turns on fan works hdd light comes on briefly power light comes on , but black screen and no hdd noise ,
any help very much appreciated
thank you

thanks vger , for the link , although i have seen similar posts on sites , do you know if the mobo;s are the same in a aspire one and an aspire 5310 , and the bios updates seem to have different files ,i would hate to do or try flashing using this method and find it kills the bios altogether, ,
i cant seem to find the method in direct relationship to an aspire 5310 ,
the only ones i find say "using the windows bios update" or enter the bios and ....." which i cant do as i have no operating sys and cant get into the bios as just have a black screen
any help re this issue would be gratefully received
thanks

FixIt,

I have no experience with the Acer products but Dell & Compaq can both be flashed from boot using a floppy. Certain Dells can flash from Windows.

The actual point that I want to make though is there is always flash instructions at the Dell or Compaq website on exactly how to proceed with the flash update in order not to muck up your system.

Where did you obtain your bios flash?

i did a search on google and went to the acer site , looked around but couldnt find any instructions on how to actually flash it ,

when putting acer flash bios in google it finds how to do it on the aspire one but nothing for the acer aspire 5310
the only "help" haha offered by the local acer shop via email is oh thats a software issue you will have to call this number at .......... you guessed it a premium rate number ,
soooooo helpful
