Default First time build, installation help. i think?

My first post on this wonderful site.

anyways I built up a pc and have everything connected, when I start it up it says

'reboot and select proper boot drive
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key’

when I insert a windows vista, home basic OEM disc it starts to read it then powers off, it won’t power back on for about 2-3 minutes. I haven't installed anything, I don’t think I’m meant to, I don't think it's a hardware problem. I had a unbranded W400 psu and I thought it powered of because of a power failure so I bought a X-power 450W and I still have the same problem.

Any help what so every would be great.

Here’s my system info if needed:-

AMD Phenom X 4 Quad Core Processor
Nvidia ECS 8100VM-M5 motherboard
2GB 800MHz DDR2 Memory
GeForce 9500 GT 1GB
X-Power 450w psu
Samsung 250GB Hard Drive (from my old pc)

Thanks

Sounds like it could be trying to boot from your hard drive that came from your old machine. Have you selected boot sequence in the BIOS correctly? make The CD /DVD ROM the first boot device.
