Unhappy Help! My PC is ultra slow.

Hi all, i have just put a computer together with all new parts (except the HDD) and installed windows xp professional. I went to the Intel website and installed all the drivers and updated the bios. there are no hardware problems in the device manager. I then went to the windows update website and updated the computer.
I have tried 3 complete re-installs.
After all of this, the computer is still really really slow. it takes about 5 minutes to get to the desktop from power on. opening programs takes a while to. Any suggestions?

Windows XP Pro, SP3
Intel D915GUX LGA775 Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Processor
2x 1GB NCP NCPT7AUDR-30M48 (NC03032) Ram - Dual Channel
Samsung SV4002H 40GB Hard Disk Drive (second one i've tried)
Intel 82915G/910GL Express Chipset Onboard Graphics
Intel Corp. EV91510A 22/02/2006 BIOS

Thankyou in advance.

Hello and welcome to PC help Forum.

Not a new hard drive, can you run CHKDSK?

Did you update BIOS and all drivers?

Can you remove RAM and test individual sticks.

Have you updated GPU driver?

Sorry, I have ran CHKDSK, updated the bios and downloaded all of the drivers intel had on offer for it. I have also checked the RAM. both individually, in different slots etc... GPU? i might try and find an update for it, i'll need to hunt around i think, as it wasn't listed in "support".
Thanks for the reply.

Well.....
According to your PC specification, it says you have:
"Intel 82915G/910GL Express Chipset Onboard Graphics"
which means you have Intel 915 Chipset Motherboard.
And it's spec of hard drive part, it says it uses:
Any of board that has Intel 915 Chipset
HDDFour Serial ATA; One IDE (ATA 100/66/33)
And you have hard drive:
Samsung SV4002H
Which has specification of ATA 100.
And your board mainly uses for Serial ATA, course they give u support to use your older hard drives.
But still, even your hard drive is fastest among IDE hard drive that your board support, it's still slower then Serial ATA ones.
So, in your case, it's either your hard drive is infected that you have to scan and fix for infections, if it happens with not just internet or if you really want fast one, you have to get new hard drive as Serial ATA. Because ATA-100 is way slower then Serial ATA or Serial ATA 2.

Jelly Bean agrees: Well spotted on the SATA 100.
