Default Thermal paste

hi all!,

I just bought a coolermaster hyper TX2 processor cooler. I can see that it comes pretreated with a thermal paste. (I heard that usually pretreated thermal paste is usually bad)
Is it better to:
1) buy thermal paste and paste over the current pretreated one (therefore 2 pastes mixed)
2) remove pretreated paste and apply new paste
3) Leave it as it is and contact with CPU

thank you.

It depends, try it out. I have an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro and I used the pre-applied paste, some say it is actually better than Arctic Silver.

They like the stock paste I would suggest you try it out and see how it is, no need to waste paste that is already applied unless temperatures are too high with it.

For what it's worth, I NEVER use 'stock' heatsink compound anymore. A couple of years ago I tried some Arctic Silver 5 compound and their 2 part Cleaning/Prep Kit. Some folks will tell you that's overkill, but I'm NOT one of them. I swear by the stuff.

There are a couple of articles at the link I'll provide below that may interest you. First and foremost in my mind is to use lint free cloth/paper (a coffee filter is perfect) to clean off the heatsink and CPU contact areas for the best performance.
